Didn't the core of the Barca team play for Spain in the Euros and World Cup ? And, if I'm not very much mistaken, they won both. Also, they did it without Messi, who is in fact from Argentina. Barcelona are a superb side with or without Messi.

To some extent Guardiola has been lucky with the players he's had coming through/already established in the team. Granted he has been responsible for the way they play however the real test would come when he actually has to rebuild a team in decline and get them to that level.

I think Chelsea would be the wrong move for him, tight compact pich/ground and having to start from square one.

Whilst Barca have some other great players, they wouldn't be anywhere near as good without Messi.

We know Mourinho is a great mananger, because he's been to several clubs and built great teams. Guardiola has yet do this in his managerial career. And as BBTSB said, he's been quite fortunate to have some of the players come through the ranks (and having Messi) during his reign as Barca boss. If Pep were to go to another side (like Chelsea) where re-building needs to be done, would he be as good as Mourinho? I honestly don't think so.

You're comparing international football to club football. Spain are in a priveleged position Internationally due to core of the team coming from Barca. They're up against players who don't regularly play together at club level, so Spain have an advantage. Xavi and Iniesta play most of the time together for Barca and Spain, whereas the likes of say Gerrard and Parker don't (not that they're anywhere near as good, but you get my drift).

Mourinho has had time to put his mark on the Real team now and they're 10 points above Barca, even with Messi in the side.

The thing is, Guardiola has not been afraid to ship players out when the need arises. Look at the youngster who came on last night and scored twice on his CL debut? The difference between Chelsea and Barcelona is that change has been gradual at Barca and with little impact on the team whose priority is the CL. Chelsea however are getting older by the minute and the need for a drastic rebuild forever increases. What is Chelsea's priority? Oh yes, the Champions League.

That is a significant point.
If Mourinho were given a blank cheque-book again at Chelsea he has shown,as has Mancini,that he knows how to spend the money well-without the money who knows?
Guardiola on the other hand has only ever bought a few players but has quickly shipped out players that he feels aren't of the right mix to be part of a tight-nit team ethic or just not considered good enough (Henry,Ibrahimovic,Hleb etc.)
Both are top managers that any team in this country would be glad to have as a manager but with Mourinho there is a very dark and unpleasant side-just right for Man Utd then.
