The inevitable poll for the next Reading manager

Basically Leam Richardson got Portsmouth promoted from League 2, he left Pompey for Wigan after promotion to join up with Paul Cook and they promptly won promotion from League 1 so you can see the logical attraction and thinking behind this appointment. Therefore the guy has proven something. So much better at least than the idiocy that got us some of the previous incumbents.

Feels like a savvy appointment to me, but haters gonna hate. Even SJM appointments had people spitting out their dummies despite his track record. I remember when McDermott was appointed and that was pretty toxic.

Actually, he joined Paul Cook at Pompey as assistant, he wasn't the manager.

Think thats the problem, people remember that horrendous spell at Rotherham without remembering that the squad there was totally out of its depth.

For a team looking to be at the top of L1 he would be a very solid appointment with a decent track record.

Think the only fly with this appointment - and probably what gets people questioning its sanity - would be the part played by Paul Cook whom Leam generally assists in all his ventures. Paul is currently manager at a rather useful Chesterfield so unlikely to see him decamping.

Can waive his Rotherham stint somewhat given they perennially do not get on in the Championship no matter who manages them. He’s certainly been through the mill at Wigan and seems to have good man management skills about him. At the end of the day though any appointment is going to be a risk esp. given Reading’s recent managerial record.

I'd be concerned. We're 19th, with how many games until January when the window opens?

A key criteria has to be pragmatism to work with what we have effectively, even if they may have a different vision for the team on a 12 - 18 month horizon.

A bit "out there" with this one, but last season, we played Burton at home and despite them not really having that much quality in their team, they played some really decent football. I know in the end we won comfortably, i thought they looked quite exciting. Looks like Mark Robinson was their manager at the time. Not exactly a glowing record, but might be worth a shout.

I’m sure he won’t try it any more than Hunt did with the likes of Marriott, Ritchie and Kyerewaa up top.
