Quinn against Wolves in the late 90s was on a par or better, imo.

Obviously too young for the Friday one.

Smith's goal certainly the best I can recall since that goal by Quinn against Wolves in '96. I did witness Friday's goal vs Tranmere in '76 and the difference was the brutal power he generated - the keeper was still diving when it hit the bottom corner of the net.

One goal I have seen since has reminded me of Friday's: Thierry Henry's vs Man Utd in 2004, difference being Henry teed it up with his shooting foot whereas Friday chested it down onto his right foot.

Yes, Robin Friday's goal was so special. Even ref Clive Thomas rated it as the best goal he'd seen. Quinn's goal, like Smith's were very good but, another with a brilliant shot was Dennis Allen (the winer against Gillingham in 66/67 from all of 30 yards was another cracker!)

Yes, Robin Friday's goal was so special. Even ref Clive Thomas rated it as the best goal he'd seen. Quinn's goal, like Smith's were very good but, another with a brilliant shot was Dennis Allen (the winer against Gillingham in 66/67 from all of 30 yards was another cracker!)

I recall a magnificent Percy Freeman 30/40 yard screamer at a muddied 1970s Elm Park (just don’t ask me what game it was tho’)….recall the Evening Post of the day rated it very highly.

There was a Billy Whitehurst halfway line effort I think V Bolton late 1980's - not as good as the Friday goal but deserves a mention.

I have a feeling this will be unpopular, but I think Wing's second goal against Cambridge at home was just as good. Maybe even a bit better...

Seen some great goals over the years, sadly not Friday’s against Tranmere. I always enjoyed Doyle’s when we beat Southampton 2-0 at the madstad in 05/06.

Quinn’s goal against Wolves will always live long in the memory, along with the abuse we gave McGhee from the South Bank.

Yup, Quinnys was a thing of beauty, back to goal, keepy-uppies….and then wham-bam thank you mam 3-0 (and his second of the night….what a player he was)

Nope. Close but no cigar IMO. 'God' had his back to goal and the first time control and swivel followed by shot. Mind you, I saw 'God's' live and only saw Smith's on TV so that may have helped colour my opinion.

Fitting that Big Percy should work in the building trade. I used to love watching him demolish walls with his freekicks. Seeing a defender (plural if the ball rebounded to Percy) crumple to the ground in pain was almost as entertaining as when the ball missed the wall and ended up in or close to the goal!
