The rules are quite clear, if they are deemed to make a genuine attempt to play the ball it`s a yellow, it looked like he was pulled back by the neck or shoulder.

Which can only mean the ref concluded it was not a clear goalscoring opportunity. As per Ince quote. But that's almost as ridiculous as whether there was an attempt to play the ball.

I know the rule. My point is ref's tend to interpret it in a way that keeps the player on the park.

If Ince was brought down outside box it would have been red straight away but with the rule as is means refs do try and just give a yellow. Rightly or wrongly.

Well it's not the challenge that's in doubt then, and the point about being outside the box makes no sense, it's the goalscoring chance, so you can understand why there'd be a misunderstanding with what you said.

If he’d been brought down outside the box it would be a totally different scenario, for a start he woukdn’t already have put the keeper out of the game !
Interpreting rules to keep players on the pitch is nonsense, you punish the offence. This interpretation meant he gave Cardiff an unfair advantage as the. Should have been down to 10 for an hour.

Thought it was this double jeopardy rule that you are punishing the team twice a penalty and a red card. Been around a couple of years I thought. If it had been outside the box it would have been a red as there was no penalty.

I was more impressed with that than any home performance last season. After a slow start we really grew into the game and the goal seemed to give the team more belief.

Seriously impressed with Fornah who was positive, composed and strong on the ball
Hendrick put in a really good shift and Long showed how much we have missed a wily centre forward who gets in the faces of the opposition.
Ince and Hoilett combined really well in the latter stages of the first half and Ince’s workrate was outstanding.
Ovie really showed what he can do in the second half but his potential hamstring injury is not what we need.

A clear red for the pen. Still it didn’t matter in the end. We fully deserved the win. We simply wanted it more than Cardiff winning a lot of 50/50 tackles. We looked a lot more physical.

Really enjoyed that.

Presumably as a prem ref he thought VAR would step in, and he could review from all angles for 20 minutes… Hope his next appointment is league 1.

Personally, I think I could make a good fist of slotting that in if it was mirrored going off to the right, and I'm not a good footballer, so the direction being an issue there is a bit stupid.

I don’t think the defence can get back to stop a shot either. But I'm not a trained and qualified ref. So there you go.

Will be interesting to see that one again. Looked in real time like Hendrick was waiting for the ball to drop, swung and as he did Rino went diving in head first. Still a duty on the player not to endanger another player so probably right to be a free kick.
The incident right at the end where a Cardiff defender threw Ehitb into the boards was worse, totally intentional and no excuse of having his eye on the ball !

He’s big but he’s a decent player. I think he’s a better prospect than Clarke personally.
