Alas, it's clear the BBC can get their facts wrong...

Why would an injured right back force them to bid for a left back?

Daily Mail report that Reading are resigned to selling Shorey to West Ham subject to finding a replacement

"West Ham hope to complete a deal for Eidur Gudjohnsen before the end of the month after agreeing a £6.7m fee for him with Barcelona. And the Hammers still want Nicky Shorey but Reading will not sell until they have found a replacement. "

Seems to me he will go sooner or later. Shame but as I have said in a previous post, if the club stick to the wage structure, we must expect to lose our best players to teams who will pay substantially more

I think they got that story from a post on The Team board.

£7 mill + mullins would be fair enough if he really wants to go

Meaning Golbourne starts at left back? With no cover? Yeah, great deal. More than fair. Aside from getting torched down the left all season, I can't see a downside.

He's got two years left. Even if he really wants to go, no deal at this point.
I don't care what he might be worth in a global sense, if Reading doesn't get what they need out of the deal _ a very good left back _ why move at all?

I'd accept £7m + Zamora, but only when we have found a replacement for Shorey. I've not seen much of Goldbourne, but from comments made on this board he doesn't seem ready for the Premiership.

Given that they seems sooo desperate for Shorey, and we don't need the cash and would need to replace him, I would suggest that we absolutely determine which of West Ham's playing squad would add value to our squad, and then take it from there.
