Yiadom and Carroll both looked comfortable, so that's something I guess. Although it'll probably turn out that they were never injured and are only sticking around until we're able to replace them.

So they'll be staying for a while then.

How the oxf*rd did the teams of 2005/2006 and before that, 1985/1986, and pretty much any team of the 1970’s (and before) etc get by?….pretty much the same starters each game

Yes maybe, the game is played at a different pace, and they are all ‘fine tuned athletes’ these days…….but by oxf*rd, they cannot be that precious surely?

You do wonder what goes on behind the scenes. How have we already injured someone who's been ever present for Cambridge and on loan in League Two over the past four seasons? Are we overworking players? Are we being over cautious? Are we working players in the wrong way?

Unlike the players today, the people who were in charge of the fitness of those players weren't only in the job because their father was "head of football operations."

Most of our players seem to get injured in training anyway.

1978-79 title winners - keeper and back four didn't miss any of the 46 league games through injury. Two players missed one match each through suspension. They weren't always fit to play but they did anyway! Had a 57 game season (including cup games) using basically 15 players. Nails.

2005/06 team had Shorey, Sidwell and Kitson go down injured at the same time. At one point we had to play Sekou Baradji.

Of the first XI, it was only really Marcus, Ivar, Sonko, Harper and Convey who made it through the season unscathed. And two of them picked up career-changing injuries early the next season.

Always seemed to be pretty much the same starting line-up (with one or two obvious changes), the inclusions of Chris Makin and John Oster occasionally, the swapping of Lita and Kits (who put himself about, and defended from the front, middle and penalty box) but that was the ‘playing to win’ League season.

Liverpool won the league title in 1966 using just 14 players and only 15 were used in playing 53 games across all competitions including reaching the CupWinners Cup Final.

Used to watch Superstars on the telly back in the 70s and footballers were usually the crappiest most unfit stars competing. If that programme came back on the telly now reckon they'd be right up there with the modern day equivalents of Brian Jacks.
