I think it's eight and nine respectively, as we also beat Charlton (4-2) and lost to Brighton U21s (3-2) on penalties in the Trophy last season. But still as close to a 50-50 record we could get with an odd number of shootouts.

I was thinking about this, but I'm not entirely sure that young players have not played under pressure. Talented youngsters at Reading will have often played in england squads at youth levels, and may well have taken part in numerous shootouts in such formats which to them at the time meant a lot more than possibly a notional first team performance in the EFL trophy.

I totally get that first team football is first team football, but the reality of the EFL trophy is its not really first team football. A big moment for individual of course, but i think many of them will have potentially taken part in penalty shootouts for England u17s u18s or whatever in international tournaments that will be big pressure moments too.

Yep, won 3-2 on pens against Charlton and lost 2-3 on pens against Brighton.

Norcot did well when he came on last night, but the difference in build and height compared to Hornby when it came to the penalties was almost comical. Their pens were decent enough, but they weren't exactly in the corner and he still got nowhere near any of them. Fair play to Holzman, he backed up a very good display with a good pen. Kanu's was the best of the night.
