Alan Nixon says Notts County and Burton battling over him apparently. Can't imagine either of them will get him as he's not very reliable.

The 2 other clubs per my previous post that I had heard were Bromley and Notts County. All offers so far are between 600 and 700k for him including ours.

This isn't meant as a reflection on it to demean Kanu, more a gentle dig at Charlton but I'm beginning to think 5 years of transfer embargoes and restrictions has skewed my thinking because since when has a striker with 1 half decent season in League 2 been worth £1m?

Then again, I didn't think Sam Smith was worth £2m+ but he's proved to be money well spent for Wrexham.

That's just football - 1m today, is probably the equivalent of 350k 5 years ago.

This. You’ve seen from the PL that virtually every player an elite club is after seems to have a price starting at around £80m or so now and this drops down the levels to the idiot prices clubs get quoted there.

Trouble is there are idiot clubs that will pay these stupid fees - Diomande went to Madrid for around £100m and he’d only played about 30 domestic league games so no wonder other clubs start using that as a marker when they start setting prices for any young forwards with a bit of potential to get the commensurate wacky price tags we’re seeing at this level.

It was meant more of a reflection on our last 5 years and how we've stood still.

Reminds me of the scene in Shawshank Redemption when Brooks leaves prison. "I saw a transfer fee once when I was a kid....."

Even last season we were still very much shopping in the bargain basement so splashing out £600k+ on a player still feels weird.

In fairness he's only 21, with a reasonable amount of first team experience. Last season was very impressive on paper - 15 goals & young player of the year. Looks like he has quite good potential to me.

And it’s that potential that you’re essentially paying for. Proves himself and you’ve probably got a million+ pound fee in 2/3 years. This might well come down to the size of the sell on Reading are willing to give in the deal.

There has been 3 offers for him all very similar. Kanus preference is us which is a good start. They want 1 million and noone has reached that yet.
The other 2 are slightly higher offers but reading are looking to offset some performance related bonuses as part of the Knibbs deal. To make up to close to a million but Charlton are not convinced those bonuses will be met so they are gambling on fees they may have to pay if Knibbs hits those feats.

Ultimately Charlton are looking at more upfront with us and less of the Knibbs related payments so this may roll on till the end of the window. They are looking to sell not loan though.
@brogue you getting your info from my posts now?
Not sure whether I should be flattered or not?

You have a bigger following on twitter so fair play.

Not saying this was incorrect but being reported that he is off to Notts County on loan.

Sell Ehibhatiomhan without a replacement is starting to look like a really stupid decision.

It’s Reading, been making stupid decisions over players for a decade or so now.

Give Rami his dues - I think the Notts County rumour originally came from one of their local journalists

Slightly concerning especially as it seems we're his preferred choice. Don't get me wrong, Notts.C have plenty going for them, great city, great stadium, sleeping giant, newly promoted etc....really thought we might have gotten this over the line, however, it's not over until he signs

Maybe not a giant but a club with an impressive history like Huddersfield and Blackpool, all now playing at our level and have started this season ok.

Going to have to go in with all guns blazing if the club really want him. If they do, let’s hope they don’t arse it up or they may have to return to chasing Higglesby :?
