Our forwards are improving at a frightening pace. Our defence seems to have stayed at just a bit better than Championship level, which realy isn't up to Prem standard. But then we had to expect to sip a few goals, and we still have a non negative GD. If we can keep that the same over the whole season I can't see us going down.

We'll definitely score goals.

Agreed, the first 2 games have gone exactly as I thought they would (near enough). I thought we'd beat Boro, because of the goals in the team, but lose to Villa because our defence isnt up to it yet. When I was having a look at our squad the goal potential was always there, but unless we bring in another defender we'll always struggle in that area. I do think we can give most teams a good game at home, and because of we'll score goals I'm hopeful that will be enough for us to stay up.

Which is exactly why Sunderland went down like they did last season. They didnt look a bad side, but made mistakes at key times and just couldnt score enough.

Being slightly old school I'm not really overly-interested in the opinions of the 'pundits'. Most of them have extended their association with the game through the slightly more parasitical mode of joining the media, which, once upon a time did appear to have some reasoned thought and considered opinion but now seems to be more a form of football porn on a 24 hour feed into the screens, dials and modems of the general populace, aided and abetted by lazy opinion and cliched speech akin to unskilled farting.

I don't care what they think about Reading FC. Our players seem to care about the club, its ability and its progress. As a fan I don't really worry about anyone else. On the whole John Madejski cares (with a few radio-waved wobbles along the way). That's all that matters to me.

In short: I didn't really care about the Premiership and what it thinks as an 'entity' before we were in it and I don't care now. There is some slight amusement at the fact a club that has been ignored or occasionally derided in its 135 year history is now considered 'worthy' of comment. Other than that, I'm just enjoying the ride. It's an overblown world with more good football than you'd believe obscured by some awful hype. It's quite an enjoyable place to be when you ignore the hawkers and spiel merchants.

In fact, that wasn't 'in short' at all.

Once they are in the fold of TV pundits, and their face fits, it really doesn't matter much what they say, just that they say it in a relaxed and authoritative manner.

Lawrenson was an excellent player and now he's a pretty good talker who does the minimum amount of research to hold down his job, and doesn't really know enough about any of the less fashionable teams to impress.

Did he get lucky? Well I think he is rather fortunate to still have the job to be honest.
