I personally think that qualifying for Europe may not be the best thing. We don't have the deepest side as it is and adding all those extra fixtures (important ones at that) might make us susceptible to relegation. Ipswich anyone? Or even West Ham for another example this year.

I think 10th would be the best case scenario at this point. High enough to grow on, but not high enough that we might over-extend ourselves next year.

Just because a side gets promoted and gets into Europe does not necessarily mean that they will subsequently suffer.

Surely we can learn from the mistakes of the past?

Have there ever been sides go up, get into Europe and not struggle? But as that isn't an interesting story, people forget it?

Coppell was relieved to be eliminated from the Carling Cup because he didn't want to have to focus on the extra set of fixtures. If we qualified for Europe, we'd have to add at least 4 or 5 quality players, including a quality backup goaltender. Don't just look at Ipswich, either. What about Spurs, Blackburn and Newcastle? All are doing great in the UEFA Cup but all are seriously underperforming in the Premier League, with Newcastle and Blackburn close to the drop. If clubs like that have a hard time playing in Europe while succeeding in League play, it seems we should at least be careful ourselves.
