Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt are set to leave Reading this summer with Watford’s Tommy Smith coming in as Brendan Rodgers goes about rebuilding his squad.

Royals’ new boss has been told he must wheel and deal in the transfer market and I understand the 36-year-old has to sell players up to the value of £11million to balance the books.

Doyle, who is recovering from a calf injury, is Reading’s most prized asset. The striker has a £6.5million get-out-clause in his contract and Everton and Aston Villa are thought to be leading the chase.

Everton are also keen on Hunt and may be tempted to make a joint bid for the Republic of Ireland internationals.

Hunt yesterday made it clear he wants to leave Reading after insisting it was “time for a fresh challenge”.

Wigan are also interested, but the winger’s value has plummeted in the last few months and Royals may accept bids of around £3million.

Andre Bikey could also be sold for around £2.5million with French outfit Marseille monitoring the situation.

A lot of us share that sentiment but Doyle does have a £6.5 Million release clause which would make it £500,000 for Hunt. Hence my earlier post which Deathy was struggling to understand

Looking at the EP report above, it could be we hold out for 6.5 million and 3 million making 9.5 million in total. Then there's the 2 million for Bikey and we've made back the supposed 11 million that we need to "balance the books".

If that happens I think I'd be more than happy esp. as Doyle only scores for the first half of a season and Hunt is becoming more like Andy Hughes.
