Is it acceptable to wear football shirts to the gym? I only wear the couple I have for odd kickabouts and sometimes down the gym* so only buy them from time to time in the end of season sale.

I hate it - the red completely ruins it for me, especially the puma and the collar. Why is it so difficult for the club to produce a shirt that the fans actually like - hoops all the way round, sponsor logo in one hoop only, no red puma, no stupid collar. IMO the only red should be on the badge and the name and number

Love the away and GK kits however.

The Waitrose logo looks too high on the home kit, merges into one of the hoops rather than sitting centrally. Aside from that I like it. Want to see the back.

Keepers shirt is nice too. Logo is very high though.

All about the back - but there's a hint of promise about it. It would be typical of the club to come out with a decent shirt the same season I actually bother to cough up big style to go to games.

At what point does a shirt become retro? For example, I have a Mizuno Auto Trader home shirt from our first season at the Madejski - does this qualify as retro? Is there a defined cut-off point?

I think that for big important games, when the sun is out it actually looks pretty decent if everyone in the stadium is wearing the hoops.
On a normal matchday I'll wear my retro Royals jersey, but I'm not going to judge anyone if they want to wear a football shirt at a football match.

If playing football, or just mooching about the house then I will often wear a longsleeve homekit as these are quite comfortable and also decent for keeping the cold off.

As for our new away kit, if the website hadn't mentioned the thin red hoops then I may never have known about them (slightly colour-blind).
Seeing as I can barely see the red lines, the black away shirt looks decent.

that might be so in the UK, as the same thing basically applies for american football over here. i dont think the stigma is there for real football in america. i NEVER see anyone wear a american football jersey on campus, i will see shirts all the time though. on the other hand, i see a football jersey almost every day, but hardly any shirts.

Don't worry, you're fine to wear a shirt whenever you like. I'll wear a shirt when out and about on holidays and that.
When in foreign countries I find that people are actually interested in what football shirt you're wearing, chances are they're hooked on English football.

Differently mentality over the pond though. If you're an adult who likes an alcoholic beverage in the town centre before/after the game, anyone with a shirt on is a no no for most pubs. Whereas, in the ST8's you can pretty much wear what you like, any NFL shirt of any team, t-shirt, whatever. Reading fans get turned away from Reading bars(in town), even on non matchdays because pubs just don't like it.
