I tend to agree with Mourhino that second yellow was soft and Torres was not helped by the reaction. Would Vertongen overreacted like that if the earlier incident with Torres hadn't happened? I think he probably would.

Mental isn't it. You've got a kid who was scoring for Belgium, and for Anderlecht in the Champions League, aged 18; Chelsea gave him 10 games or so to prove himself then cast him aside. Since the end of 2011/12, he has played 3 games for Chelsea. For everyone else he has 20 goals and 5 assists in 41 games. Still, at least the Great One signed a big name in Eto'o.

Chelsea's Fernando Torres to face no further punishment

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will not face retrospective action for scratching Jan Vertonghen's face during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
The Football Association reviewed the incident after the Spaniard was captured on TV scratching the defender.
But a match official had already seen the incident which means under FA rules no action can be taken.
The 29-year-old will serve a one-match ban after being sent off in the 82nd minute for two bookable offences.

If he's been 'let off' by virtue of the fact that the ref saw it, then it wouldn't have mattered whether it was a first offence or he's a serial scratcher.

Good observation.

Add in Hernan Crespo, Adrian Mutu, Mateja Kezman, Salomon Kalou, Claudio Pizarro... all top top players when they went to Chelsea only to disappoint. (Crespo was ok, but didn't really take off for me.) (Adding in Di Santo would probably be pushing it a bit. )

Hasselbaink was good for his first 2 seasons there, Zola was decent, Drogba was great but it's true not many of the forwards have been successful at Chelsea in the last 15 years or so. Mind you, doesn't seem to stop them from winning things.
