Hunt gives 100% for every team he plays for and was a major reason that the team played with such unity and energy, they didn't want to be shown up by a wingers work rate! I can't understand anyone who doesn't love him.

But back to topic...if McCleary has been signed with a wage drop clause in the case that we might be relegated (which I'm sure he has) then it's a good low risk signing.

As far as I'm concerned the 106 squad is untouchable. I don't care what happened to them after they left, or in the months leading up to their departures. That season and the first season in the Premier League were amazing and all of those players (even John Oster) are heroes.

Idolising them and holding them up as untouchable heros was part of the problem in the first place. Players should ALWAYS be trying to prove themselves to fans throughout their time with a club and not just sit back and bask in things that happened a few years ago.

It is possible to both respect what a player has done and to criticise their failures.

5 years later, I'm not sure what kind of a grudge anyone can justifiably hold.

It smacks of a very short memory to me.

There's a difference between holding a grudge and being able to say 'yeah he was immense between 2006-2008 but let himself down with his play during his final six months as well as his attitude away from the pitch'

If you put the 2006-2008 Hunt in front of me I'd have him back in a heartbeat but just like Shorey he showed fatal character flaws during his last months here that play a part in any judgement you should make about him.

As a Reading fan, I really don't see the point in retrospectively disparaging the players who formed our greatest ever squad (to date) during our most successful period as a football club.

Perhaps we just have different concepts of fandom.

Typical STG v RTG really. I think STGs are a bunch of whinging ungrateful feckers, and you think I live in a fluffy fantasy land.

Anyway, McCleary seems like a really good bit of business and I can't wait for HNA to get on his back for not being Messi or Ronaldo.

I was at the hotel yesterday and Brian McDermott was sat with Gareth McCleary having a chat whilst Nicky Hammond structured a deal with his agent. He is 24 and was Nottingham Forest player of the season but his contact has expired. Assuming the financials match up then this should be concluded shortly.
