I think there's going to be another Non-League Day on Saturday 9th October.

Might try and make it to Dulwich Hamlet or maybe Hitchin Town if they're at home that day and nothing else comes up.

October 9th is also FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Rnd - not that Worthing nor Dulwich are concerned - :?

Hitchin could still be involved - they play Aveley this Sat in the 2nd Q Rnd - presumably the draw for the ties due w/e 9/10 will be made Monday Lunchtime as usual.

... from what I can find:-

... if Hitchin lose in the Cup they'll be away at AFC Hayes

... Dulwich Hamlet should be at Bognor Regis Town - who might still be in the Cup

... Worthing are away at Corinthian Casuals - also still in the Cup.

... and I think AFC Wimbledon are @ Wrecsam that Saturday!

I'll try and post a fuller listing including an updated Cup Draw, nearer the time on the main NL thread in GF.

... do it while you still can - (the ground not your sis! :? )

Reading some concerned postings on the NL Forum, seems they too are snarled up with a big property development/Rugby (Crusaders?) buy out/ground sell-off scam at the Racecourse and could conceivably be out on their ears or 'years' to use the vernacular ! :D

If never done the Racecourse or Cae Ras as its known locally - had the chance when we had good friends who lived the Welsh side of Chester - very well off via the 'DINKY' lifestyle - (Dual Income No KiddYs  ) - but they used their vastly affluent accumulations to bugger off to Provence a year or so back! :(

What about Metropolitan Police FC? I bet they have a captive audience at their games!

Think youve got a bit carried away with the FAC Four!

This Saturday is the 1st Qualy round. Draw for the 2nd Q is this coming Monday, ties to be played 25/09. 09/10 is the 3rd Q rnd.

...gaaah - -wrote a suitably contrite (and as usual lengthy  ) response and my HNA 'tab' closed as I switched back and forth twixt here and TheFA.com - (can't get used to this IE browser - I know BT Yahoo was c@ck most of the time but it never normally randomly closed Tabs on you   )

... anyroad - I appeared to have skipped two w/e's in my reckoning but the basic premise remains; those clubs mentioned above could have their 9th Oct fixtures affected by the FA Cup and even if not, they all seem to have away games that w/e?

PS for anyone actually interested 'The Filth' are also away on the 9th - at my 'boyhood' team: Ramsgate! :)

I must admit I quite like the idea of the Met having their own football team. Do any other organisations or departments have teams in the non-league scene?

Sout Wales Police had a good rugby club for many years. Irony of ironies when a few years ago Cardiff City were to play Millwall and a load of East End boys turned up at Paddington to meet and greet the train from Cardiff. Imagine the horror as the Millwall mob started to kick off with the Welshmen when all of a sudden a load of SWP rugby players got off the train and started to join in. The platform soon emptied of Londoners  As told to me by someone who was connected to the rugby club.

... probably hundreds around the bottom ends of the Pyramid at Town and County league level - though a lot of companies seem to have cut back drastically on the open 'sponsorship' of their own Sports & Social Clubs.

i.e. locally seems Theale Royal Mail could be on the point of dropping the 'posties' bit - though I've also read a claim that their 'registration' with the shortened name in the Reading League for 10/11 season was subject to a clerical error and they ARE still supposed to be known as Royal Mail?

I'm not sure how close the ties still are but elsewhere I can immediately think of these 'locally':-

Hamble ASSC (Aerostructures) in the Wessex
United Services Portsmouth - ditto
Bucks Student Union - in the Spartan South Mids Two
Almondsbury UWE - in the Western One

Sholing have recently changed from VT (which was Vosper Thorneycroft)
BAT Sports obviously had to cut their ties with the Tobacco giant and are now known simply as Totton & Eling - bit confusing since there is also an AFC Totton - and they are about to move into the same new Sports complex.

... and of course oop north there's probably still plenty of Miners Welfare clubs etc too - and not all will be a mere historical connxn to the pits?

Kent Police - certainly used to be members of the Kent League
Come to think of it, Snowdon Colliery Workers used to be in the Kent League too albeit at a pretty low level - that wasn't meant to be a pun! :?

I think Met Police are the highest ranked now - certainly in the south - following the 'demise' of Team Bath who rose to STEP02 before vanishing.

... also had a vague notion that recently the FA demanded that clubs took the name of the town/area they were associated with if not actually playing in - presumably they can be a bit lax about the Plod. There's still a few 'vague' one's out there especially in the S.Mids - eg Kentish Town, Sport London e Benfica and London Lions - don't actually tell you much about where they play - KT moved out of their original 'home' area years ago I think - currently at Barnet Copthall about 7-8 miles NW of Kentish Town?

Wow cheers for the info there. You really do have a great knowledge of football!

All this reminds me of how in the old Eastern Block countries their football teams were originally derived from various state industries and departments (CSKA Moscow being run by the Red Army etc) I think Dynamo Moscow was something to do with the KGB. Locomotive- self explainitory.

It'd be funny if HMRC had a team, or the DWP whose grudge match would presumably be any team from Liverpool!

Four of Clubs or Terminal Boardom can probably provide more info on the following teams I can think of.

Vauxhall Motors (Conference North)
Airbus UK (Welsh League)

I'm certain there are a few Midlands non-league sides as well.

There is also a Scotish Junior side by the name of Burntisland Shipyard, whether they're a works team or not I have no idea but they have recently qualified for the Scotish Cup.

Great praise indeed  but I will kow tow to FoC's far greater and wider knowledge. Off the top of my head, there was Ferranti Thistle who joined the Scottish League but, because of SFA regulations, were not allowed to use this name so they changed to Meadowbank. Coventry City started life in 1883 as the work's team of Singer. More to come but first, I am off to Burnham :D

If Dulwich Hamlet still play at the same ground as they did when I went there to see Reading play a pre-season friendly (Pardew was manager) then its a most welcoming place with friendly supporters, nice social club bar, nice ground and incredibly easy to get to. Also one of the very few teams to have pink in their home kit.

I went to Dulwich many years ago. Without a doubt, the most impressive non-league ground I ever visited. There was a huge terrace on one side which was as big if not bigger than the South Bank at Elm Park. IIRC, it was all ash and cinder terracing with wooden risers. The place held 20,000 at least.

I was going to suggest that Billingham Synthonia is formerly a works team for ICI (and a former club of Brian Clough, Craig Hginett and according to Harry Pearson....Frank Bough), although this would appear to be (I discover after wikiiing) to be bogus.

Leigh RMI would have been a legit suggestion but they've been reborn as the slightly naff Leigh Genesis FC. Perhaps a Peter Gabriel gag would be appropriate here.

Perhaps not.
