FA Cup 1st round draw Monday 14th October

Yes, much prefer winning them.

Isn't this the one where the FA and PL agreed to scrap them but the FL never said anything to its members until the FA announced it? Personally it's ******* ludicrous that the FA agreed to this just because about 3% of the clubs that enter the competition don't want them. That's the same 3% that carry massively bloated and expensive squads and academies that apparently "can't cope" with the possibilty of an additional cup fixture

Seem to remember Liverpool having to "cope" (to great effect too) a couple of years ago when using their full squad and academy to the maximum to play in the league cup at Villa while their first team was forced into playing FIFA's stupid world club final tournament thing on the other side of the world.

Of course if the FA upped the prize money for the later rounds you'd probably find that same 3% more than happy to accommodate replays

Should have just said that the lower league club goes through in the event of a draw. That'd have made things much better for the smaller clubs.

Would just mean lower league outfits parking the bus though. Perhaps they do anyway to an extent.

I think I'm right in saying: in Germany, the lower league side automatically gets the home game (it may be only in the case there's a two or more division difference between the sides).

I can only speak about the French FA Cup - they have a lower ranked team play at home rule.

Last season, at least one amateur side got a trip abroad (the one I know went to Martinique). Nice.

Coincidentally Chris Lee (the Reading FC history chap) on Facebook posted into the Reading FC 1871 group a picture of top 30 largest Elm Park attendances 5 days ago.

Man City in Jan 1968 is the 14th highest home attendance, but the second most recent. The most recent top 30 attendance was Southampton (league cup) in 1978 with 25,046 (ranked 17th overall).

The daft thing is that after drawing 0-0 away (a train special to Manchester was the transport for a lot of us) many of us thought that we had a chance in the replay.
All we could do on the night was to watch with admiration at seeing the development of the best side in England over the next couple of years.
In the first game we couldn't understand all the hype around Colin Bell but in the second game we saw why.
