Now add 3 or 4 million and we might answer the phone.

Oxford United have dropped their interest in Charlie Savage and won’t be making a fresh bid at this stage as the Royals asking price is £1.5m.

if we get 1.5 million for him (750K after 50% goes to UTD) you have to say that's too good to turn down. He's 1 and half years left on his contract its now or never for maximizing a return on him. we have fraser and rino if he ever gets himself back and sorted. and who knows a week left of the trnsfer market we could bring someone else in too. I think you have to accept 1.5 mill to be honest.

So that will be Smith to wrexham for a reported 2 mill
Knibbs to Charlton for a reported 1.8
and now savage to whoever for 1.5

5.3 million since January last year just from them 3 players. all signed for free. Its very good business.

Agreed, and not even reluctantly. You sign players like Savage with a hope you can sell them on, so if an acceptable bid comes in, you sell.

As said with Fraser and Rino in the squad, we may even have replacements that provide a better midfield balance.

I really like Savage but yes agreed

Also think like Knibbs if he wants to leave then we’ve a bit of a duty to support that given the last few years

Happy to sell for a good price and £1.5m with sell on seems fair. Would like to see someone else come in to replace. Rino hasn't featured and we don't know what his circumstances are, while isn't Fraser injured too?

Agrees, he's been here 2.5 years, which is quite a long time in modern football and I would imagine part of the reason a 4 year deal was agreed was with an agreement that he could move on at around this time (or summer at latest) and the club receive a fee.

I mean, this is how we should be functioning as a club, unless we're one day a regular top 6 club, there will always be someone to sell to.

Happy with what’ll amount to £750,000 but still feel he could do better than a second tier relegation battle.

Fraser is fine, was an unused sub on Saturday but came on against Stockport and Orient

Similar sentiment to most on here, if he wants to go he should (just not to Oxford).
But….. I do think we need another to come in for that position and we are leaving it late in the window. So I would not want to go more than a couple more days before he goes.
Also fees are always higher towards the end of the window due to teams becoming desperate.

Can we take player swaps as part of transfer as would take Dozzell (Pompey) or Liam Gibbs (Norwich) on loan or perm as part of the deal would solve the problem.

I like Savage a lot, but wouldn't begrudge him a move. Would be a good opportunity to bring Keane into the starting 11, then switch Doyle with Fraser, or Rinomhota when he's available.

£1.5m, wish him well and look forward to seeing more of Rino and Fraser.

How many of Sackey, Spencer, Borgnis etc are still at the club /recallable to cover injuries/bench?

I reckon Ritchie would do OK in DM given his experience and time at FB.

Will be interesting to see if Savage is in the squad tonight if this rumoured move hasn't gone through by then.

Is there actually a rumoured move, just rumours that a couple of clubs are interested and may bid.

The original Oxford rumours came from local journalists. The Portsmouth/Norwich rumours came from a rando account on Twitter (~500 followers) and I think it was phrased that they were willing to meet Reading's valuation

From Andy Preston:
Latest on Charlie Savage

- Club braced for interest from Championship clubs in last week of window
- Standing firm on valuation, Oxford not prepared to meet, but others have enquired
- Player not currently pushing for a move #ReadingFC
Reckon this will go to the wire.

Yeah, reluctantly agree, because I don't really want to lose him. He doesn't owe us anything, we took a chance on him, he took a chance on us and he's been developing well. Scored some absolute belters for us. He deserves a shot at the championship.
