The thing about signing bad boy players like the two mentioned is that it gives fans of other clubs something to abuse about and makes the club who own them unpopular.
I found the Newcastle fans applauding Joey Barton when he came on at Sunderland to be something I'd never like Reading fans to do. TBf there were probably Newcastle fans who wouldn't applaud as well.

Lita's been banging them in for Narch and, instead of being recalled, he gets the loan extended for another month. Don't you think SC would have got him back straight away if he really wanted him? I think this shows that SC/Mr Mad do not countenance players who are trouble and therefore would never sign such players as Hughes and McCormick.
BTW when I can walk to the pub I don't take the car. When I take the car I don't drink. Did McCormick never consider that option?

Oh, what a load of Beef'n'Onion! We have Noel Hunt and Kevin Doyle playing ever so well, so Lita wouldn't get straight back into the line-up. Coppell wanted him to get some games, not sitting on the bench and that's nothing to do with whatever perceived attitude Lita has.

Quite right! Was accused of rape, but all charges got dropped. He did however cheat on his girlfriend, even though she was only in the room next to him, but I don't think thats comparable to McCormick or Hughes!

Did she not think of knocking on the door to see how he was getting on???

reading wont sign a player deemed in this category, at least whilst SSC is at the helm

Oh yeah I remember that Rumour ... Apparantly the Chairman whos daughter he was supposed to be with doesnt actually have a daughter strange that really
Not sure how this can be compaired to someone who kills two kids because they were driving pissed tho

That Cureton thing was a load of made up gash, as pointed out in Holloway's book. Cureton basically went into the Chairman's office and asked for x amount of pounds, the point blank refused even though Holloway supported JC's case as he'd been their best player. Jason Roberts had just moved on and Curo's agent was working double time to get him a move. He was in his last year of contract and Reading offered a fee and offerd Curo significantly more than Rovers could. Simple as that. Holloway was uber pissed off about it.

Who signed Lita? Who signed Oster? Who signed Stack?

In fact, never mind Sir Steve, I would suggest whist ever Mr Mad is in charge we will not see miscreants signed for RFC. Byron Glasgow's treatment being a case in point.
And what did we think we were doing with McLaren?
I wonder how well we looked in the characters of Halford and Fae before blowing the best part of £5m on the pair of them?

Did we know about McLaren's problems before we signed him - and anyway that was pre SSC and I suspect the big attraction in signing McLaren was who his agent was.....
We looked really closely at Halford, apparently - not sure about Fae - but perhaps the problem with the former was that until he was on PL level wages and thinking he'd "arrived" then he didn't have the alleged problems. It's harder to spot a tendency for something that a reality. Ditto with Lita - he didn't have "form" when we signed him, but once he'd "arrived" (in his mind) then the alleged troubles started.

I'm not sure if the club knew, but I'd been told by pretty reliable sources that he was, how shall I put it, 'known for his off pitch antics.' Agreed it was a whole seperate era but that example was more in response to the JM/Byron Glasgow comments than Coppell's record.

None of them have been done for drink driving offences, i believe they have all just suffered allegations with nothing concrete

The wider point being players who have been in trouble though. Stack was up for rape for crying out loud, although admittedly he wouldn't have been signed permanently if convicted (presumably because he'd have been inside!).
What do you think of Kevin Dillion by the way? Unless my mind is playing tricks on me he was done for being something like 3 times over the limit.
I'm not sure about any of our other players or non-playing staff, but I'd probably put money on there being more than just Dills with a conviction in the past. As bad as the Hughes and McCormick events are I just can't see a drink driving conviction being a definite barrier to RFC employing anyone.
