I didn't say it wasn't achievable if we didn't spend.
I said that if we want to be promoted soon (ie. the next 2 or 3 seasons) then Madejski will have to make money available for suitable replacements for those who leave.
Otherwise we'll have to bring in cheap replacements and improve them over a longer period.

Kevin Doyle's a top player and decent individual. His move to Wolves allows him regular football in the prem. He needs to play at that level especially in a world cup year. So on one side the move is good for Kevin. Yet Wolves are going to struggle and get beat more times than not. It's an odds on bet Wolves will be relegated. As good as Kevin Doyle can be, even with his professional attitude and work rate, he'll struggle in a struggling side.

Reading have cashed in because it was near on impossible to keep him when we failed to go back up. By moving to Wolves he'll play in the prem almost every week. I just question this move to Wolves will be for the long run. I doubt it.

Only 3 teams can go down, and there are also Burnley, Brum, Stoke and Hull in the reckoning. I reckon Wolves are best-equipped of those 5 to stay up - they're very similar to us in our first PL season.

Totally agree. Those 5 don't take into account the Wigans, Pompeys, Fulhams, Boltons, Sunderlands and so on either. A couple of those sort of teams often struggle - see Middlesborough and Newcastle this season.

Most bookies thought we were going down when we finished 8th. I suspect most bookies had Hull and Stoke going down last season. Odds reflect ignorance of promoted teams and where the most money is going.

Perhaps it has something to do with playing high tempo, direct, wing based, attacking football.

They were briefly terrible around Xmas. Other than that they were very good. The division was not especially terrible. Even if it were, that didn't stop Hull and Stoke staying up.

Ah man, I think Wolves have goals, that'll probably keep them them up.
Doyle hasn't been the same player since that injury he picked up at Goodison, he was very, very good, class in fact.
He's still ok, but I think before that injury, he could have ended up more or less where he wanted to end up.

The bookies are offering 11/8 Wolves get relegated. £1.38 for every £1 staked so a ten quid bet might make me £3.80 if Wolves go down.

If your 3-1 bet wins (Wolves stay up), you'll receive £3 for every £1 staked. So If your stake was £10, you would win £30.

With such a small return it's not really a good bet for me is it? Anyway I admit I'm not 100% certain Wolves will go down but I don't see them as the Reading 106pts team that stormed the prem in the 1st season. I think Wolves will struggle and will be in the relegation zone. Odds on they'll go down. That's the reason I think Kevin Doyle's return to the prem will be a short stay. I could be wrong and Wolves scrape by but if even if they do they'll struggle again the next season too. If he'd moved to Villa or Everton I'd be more confident but then as someone pointed out earlier may be he wouldn't get a regular place in those teams.
