TBF, if he's going to go (and it remains utterly utterly retarded that that's even being considered as a serious option], the time to do it is now, the way to do it is to foment a 'both sides lose' argument, and then do it quickly, efficiently, and move on.

But we're a nasty little basket case of a club right now and these type of things, these scales of decisions, matter so much more than individuals or players.

Maybe this is why the academy news has been put out there. Isn’t this what people call news dumping or burying bad news? Would make sense if a sacking is coming today.

What might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back is that Reading are now only valued at £10m according to ChatGPT :D

I would have Selles in like you wouldn't believe.

Would love to see what he could do with this squad and a summer window to strengthen.

No grudges at all on how he left - what he went through when he was here has earned him all my respect.

C4Y BIB (though seeing as you told Twitter before you told HNA I'm reconsidering my opinion)

It amazes me that when you point out that it took Selles time to get good, there's a genuine "well, if we were a normal club he would have been sacked".

Whole teachable lesson about the importance of giving managers time to get a squad to gel around ideas and vision and "NAHHHHHH" rejected because managers just shouldn't get that chance.

Side note - number of games with 90+ minute goals conceded that season - Exeter (A), Northampton (A), Orient (A), Charlton (A), Fleetwood (H), Shrewsbury (A) twice, Fleetwood (A), Bolton (A), Blackpool (H) - about 20% of the games that season.

Some didn't matter - Bolton, Blackpool but there's a fair few points dropped there, right?
Right?
Right?

Fleetwood away twice, don`t think they were all added time goals.

Good spot.
Edited to reflect the first one's home and the second one's away - that away one was definitely added time.

Was really sad to see him go, but it took him a bloody long time to get a half decent squad performing. What we have now are big to massive downgrades from Smith, Knibbs, Mbengue and Bindon as well imo.

Maybe if given a proper window but it’d be a big risk

If true, I'm not particularly disappointed despite being in the "give more time" camp. But it does reflect very badly on any club to have 3 managers in one season - can you name a single club who has had success that way?

If he goes, we must get the next appointment right and break a hiring and firing cycle that gets us nowhere.

My thoughts entirely. Although we've been crap recently, we have improved over the season and I was content to give him the summer and pre-season to see if things could improve at the start of next season. If not then the excuses run out.

But whilst I'm not shedding any tears if he goes, we absolutely have to get the next one right and not be here again in a year (or less)

Do you honestly think our fan base has the patience to wait for another summer rebuild, made worse as we're going to be losing a few more players now, and another slow-ish start to the season.

Anyone?

The EPR had a good point that next season has the potential to turn toxic incredibly quickly as he has no goodwill in the bank. We have all talked about a full pre season and summer transfer window - if the first 5 games went badly, there would already be a storm in August. Add in the rumours about the lost dressing room, and perhaps he has simply run out of road.

But again, it's really the owners and JJ who should carry the can if a new manager has reached that point so quickly. Has it even been 6 months?

If the dressing room is lost then that's where we are whatever we do. Either keep an unhappy camp that doesn't perform, clear out the squad or change the manager. Those are the options.

So we all need to be ready for another rebuild whatever we choose. Let's hope the owners set realistic expectations this time and try to get us on board for the ride.
