I’ve also since discovered Camara is also up in the summer, so Reading could find themselves with just 9 contracted players from this year’s main first team squad in July. They’re going to have to have some seriously good youngsters to step up.

L1 won't be very attractive for laundering vast sums of money on dodgy third party owned players. So we may be ok.

I think it is a big concern as the continuity isn't there. I'm not really one for a big reset, I don't necessarily think that is what's needed. There is talented footballers here, we just need to move the high earners on that remain like Swift (leaving anyway), Moore and Puscas (could leave). That would free up a hell of a lot of space on our wage bill to bring players in that can compete.

I'd be more than happy to keep the likes of Holmes, Rino and Laurent on, despite them being poor this season. They are players we should be looking to keep really.

The long and short is that we should be keeping our academy products as they have value to be sold on and developed, These are the value within the squad if we let every youth player leave on a free contract it is not sustaining itself it will also not help the FFP situation. alongside this we have found some great seasoned professionals to support the team this year on acceptable contracts. this is a sustainable way of running the club.

I am only going to look at players who are round the first team
GK
Nyland- sign on for another season or 2 looks like a solid keeper to compete with Southwood
Southwood- already signed on for another year has had too much pressure to quick could flourish

Defence
Rahman (Loan) will go back to Chelsea we can not afford his wages would take him on loan again if the option was there next year
Mcintyre- Has long contract great utility option at the back will only get better asset to the team
Holmes- Sign for 2-3 years asset and potential to be a CB for the club for years to come
Morrison- Give him another year cheap wages and squad option
Dann- Already signed for another year yet again strong squad player will do a shift
Yiadom- sign for another year depending on his wage demands if over the average let go
Moore- Accept whatever offer we get for him whether loan or permanent there is a reason the squad has been more unified without him.

Midfield
Laurent- player that we should be looking to keep at all costs a real gem another 2-3 years if we can
Rinhomota- same as Laurent
Tetek- Not sure of contract situation but sign on longer if possible
Aruruna - Who? let go will not be missed.
Drinkwater (Loan) - interesting one as he is OOC at Chelsea and we maybe the best contract offer he would get, would give him a year as a squad player to help develop the above we are thin in this area and would need another player if not.
T Dele Bashiru (loan)- clearly talented but not really done it here consistently not sure whether I would even take him on loan again.

Wingers and Attacking midfielders
John Swift- A amazing player that we can not afford I wish him all the best wherever he ends up will be playing for a lower premier league team next year.
Yakou Meite - thank god he has another year on his contract key to keep as long as we can.
Alen Halilovic- If he is happy to stay as a cheap squad player/backup then keep.
Ovie Ejaria - has another year and hope he shows us something more soon
Tom Ince (Loan) - If he will accept a affordable wage give him 2 years as he is OOC at Stoke
Junior Hoillet - Give him another year affordable and has been reliable when needed. I think he has really been a key reason this season to some of our best performances
Femi Azeez- Give 3 years there is some real talent there if utilised and brought on with the right players around him.
Brandon Barker- Not really seen enough yet only real worry is that we are over subscribed in all the positions he plays in wages could be used for another player who can play more centrally to fill the void from Swift.

Forwards
Joao- Keep him for as long as we can
Puscas- Is probably already gone as there is a buy clause for Pisa if they get promoted will help ease FFP
Clarke- Keep as only other forward who has scored on the books.

Manager
Ince - keep if he will stay he is scrappy and is just what we need.

Interesting tit bit is that Loader is OOC at Porto. He has done ok for there youth team and may want a route back as it did not quite work as he expected could be a direct replacement for Swift.

Agree with most, not sure about keeping Morrison on though. Cheap wages and experienced, yes, but appears to be slowing down a lot now and might be more suited to League One these days. If we go down, then yes keep him on, if not then let him go.

Assuming Holmes signs and Moore leaves, that would leave us with the same CB's that we've had for all of this season (if we kept Morrison on I should clarify). We know where the issues have been, we really lack pace in this area. If Morrison was to go it will free up a slot in our squad to bring in someone a bit younger, potentially on loan, who can add pace in this area.

I'd personally only keep on one of Halilovic or Ince, not both. Barker can go unless he shows something. Hoilett and either Ince or Halilovic, preferably the former at this time, should stay. That would leave us with Meite, Ejaria, Ince/Halilovic and Hoilett as our wide options, good enough for the season, particularly if Azeez stays on as well.

Hopeful that Rino, Laurent and Tetek stay. Will certainly need another body in this area though to compensate for the loss of both Drinkwater and TDB. Swift will be the void that can't be replaced, but let's try and bring in a good couple of midfielders with creativity in his place. Rahman and another LB will need signing, we need 2 players in this area, not McIntyre. He's done well, but that's not his position.

I'd be sad to see Yiadom leave, but he's replaceable. Again, could use a Yiadom replacement and a back up option here as well. If Puscas leaves, definitely need another 2 forwards for me as well to help with competition. Keep Nyland on for another season as well.

Think Yiadom may well stay. Popular figure at the club, too old to go to anyone more ambitious but can still offer us another couple of good years

I like Tom Ince, but it’ll take a huge drop on wages for him to sign in longer. Don’t think that will happen. Hoilett would stay if we want him to, Halilovic unlikely to Id think

Rino I think will hang around. Laurent not sure. Probably not but you never know. Ince seems to love him so that might sway things if he stays

Would prob retire off Morro - maybe a coach job? Holmes I’m not bothered by really - think there are better out there but if he wants to stay then maybe. Not as first choice though

Azeez and Tetek would like to see stay on. Along with Clarke and Camara. Nyland a yes based on what we’ve seen so far

I prefer Morrison to Dann, but we've signed Dann up, so Morro has to go.

We can't afford to have two aging slow centrebacks in the squad when we also have the slow and injury prone McIntyre and potentially be retaining the slow Holmes.

We are crying out for a centreback with a modicum of pace and we can't afford to have 5 or 6 CBs in the squad.

A squad including Morro, McIntyre and Dann is in danger of having three senior defenders out injured for a third of the season.

Not to mention that defence desperately needs fresh blood not used to conceding and losing.

Very concerning when you look at the various lists.
I think the managerial appointment is so important especially with a view to their connections in the game as much wheeling , dealing and loaning will be involved..

My worries on the playing side are:
Firstly keeping Joao has to be the priority and not to be tempted by potential transfer funds.
Strikers are almost priceless and you have to be very, very lucky to get one in who is ready made.

Puscas can go-an expensive experiment, like Aluko ,that didn't work
I like Azeez but he has had injuries-will he stay fit (as far as you can predict)?.
Meite-having seen his cameo performances on his return I do fear that he just might not be the threat that he was.
A key player if he gets back to his best
Clarke-who knows?
Why hasn't he played a bit more under the two managers?

As for midfield, we have had numbers but not the consistency.
Rino-doesn't look the brave and committed player to me since his injury.
Laurent-occasionally looks top class but less so this season.
Ejaria-an enigma who one day a manager will get the best out of, perhaps.
Tetek-I'm not convinced
Camara-has ability and this could be a make or break season.
Halilovic-forget him
TDB-forget him
Drinkwater would be fine if the game were played at his pace but it isn't and we can't afford to wait until the second half of games to see him have an impact.
Hoilett-a steady Championship player
Swift-will, like Olise, be a tremendous loss
