Which if it involves crossing might have potential, if there was anyone there who could cross. And Mbengue wasn't poor at full back.

What would you do instead - other than NGW/Sarr?

I’d like Azeez in there but I’m not dropping Joao or Carroll. Meite is worth a shot RW at least to start

Definitely play two fullbacks.

Most the players are right, but it doesn’t suggets to me there's a coherent plan.

I wouldn’t play Joao and Carroll together, chalk and cheese. I'd probably drop Carroll for Azeez to discourage long ball and have him as a late game throw of the dice to go more direct.

Or alternatively (same fullback deal) drop a midfielder or Meite and put Azeez in to go with two wingers instructed to cross to Joao and Carroll.

Could even go crazy and go:

Abrefa, Holmes, Mbengue, Yiadom
Azeez, Casadei, Hendrick, NGW
Joao, Carroll.

No, he just doesn’t seem to rate most players under about 23! I know you shouldn’t flood an XI with youngsters but all the same I think NGW, Abrefa and Azeez should have played a lot more than they have. Honestly think Reading would have more points than they have now if they had played!
