I know a few people have an inexplicable hard on for hating him, but this really is a stupid comment given he's played 20 games (and has a goal and an assist).

I’m fully aware of that. But “playing” 20 games and actually impacting 20 games are not the same thing.

That’s the real frustration, that he’s been picked 20 times despite offering so little in the previous 19, while other squad members who may have performed better have been given fewer opportunities.
MoM scored a goal, does that mean he should have got another 9 games?

Normally I wouldn’t let it get to me, but his total ineffectiveness and, frankly, the lack of anything consistently positive feels like a reflection of the manager’s philosophy.

Yes, he’s scored one goal. But how many sitters has he missed? How many times has he turned down a forward pass? How often has he given the ball away? On Saturday alone he passed it straight to a Wycombe player, gifting them a free shot on goal.

It increasingly feels like a player who follows instructions, passes backwards, and keeps shape is preferred over someone willing to take risks and try to make something happen, even if that means occasionally failing.

Whether that approach is logical or not is beside the point. Football support isn’t always rooted in logic, it’s about wanting to see intent, bravery, and a genuine attempt to move the game forward.

In defence of Paddy Lane, he's only about to turn 25 and joined at the end of pre-season so perhaps wasn't best prepared? Not that he shouldn't be struggling still. Still has plenty of time to come good.

Expectations innit. His last season in this league resulted in a promotion, and chipping in with a significant goal and assist contribution. Pompey fans said he wasn't particularly quick, but his final ball was good.

He hasn't shown us that here (yet), and he has missed a lot too early in the season. Coupled with a fee paid for him, and he's open to criticism, whether it's down to him or not.

I’ve watched hundreds of players play for Reading over the years ,some with a price tag, some on free transfers, some through the academy all of varying standards. Taking everything else out of it, without fear or favour, just going off what I’ve seen, without any bias IMHO....... he’s been utter dogshit.
I really hope that changes but would suggest a sack of potatoes from the hotel restaurant would not be a downgrade at this point.

Dont see we really have a choice as we paid a fee for him. I am assuming the club used AI modelling to asses his abilty not realisng that AI stood for Aimless Irishman.

Reading Football Club are delighted to confirm that Andy Rinomhota has signed a new one-year contract with the Royals, keeping him at the Select Car Leasing Stadium until the summer of 2027.

A familiar face to Royals supporters, Rinomhota returned to the club in November 2025 following a successful trial period at Bearwood Park.

The Zimbabwe international first joined Reading's Academy in 2015 and went on to make 139 appearances during his initial seven-year spell with the club. Rinomhota was named Reading's Player of the Season in 2018/19 and played a key role in helping the Royals retain their Championship status in 2021/22.

Following his departure from Berkshire, the midfielder made more than 80 appearances for Cardiff City and was named the Bluebirds' Players' Player of the Season before returning to RG2 last season.

An injury-disrupted campaign limited Rinomhota's opportunities following his return, but the 29-year-old now heads into the new season determined to make his mark after committing his future to the club.

First Team Manager Leam Richardson said:

"Andy is someone we know very well and we're really pleased to see him extend his stay with the football club.

"We've seen the standards he sets every day around the training ground and the experience he brings to the squad. He understands the demands of this football club, he understands our supporters and he cares deeply about representing Reading.

"Andy has worked extremely hard to get himself back fit and we're excited to see what he can contribute with a full pre-season behind him. He brings energy, versatility and leadership to the group, and we're delighted he'll continue to be part of what we're building here."

Speaking after signing his new deal, Rinomhota said:

Agreed, I think this season he was a nice idea that didn't really work out due to his lack of match fitness, get a good pre-season behind him and hopefully he'll prove himself to be a squad regular at the very minimum, but I think he'll be a regular in the starting XI.

Agreed +2 - can easily imagine him playing a similar role to Harper back in the day - mainly there to be neat, tidy and recycle the ball effectively.

Really chuffed with Rino extending his contract. He conveys a real sense of giving blood for the cause, just as Tom McIntyre has spoken about 'coming home'. As long as his ankle injury is cleared up, why not?

So we have 3 defensive centre midfielders currently. Doesn’t exactly scream excitement. Still, it’s early seeing as the window hasn’t even opened yet. just don’t think it makes sense unless we sell fraser and bring in at least two more attacking centre midders.

I think Rino could afford Wing a bit more freedom and give us a bit of control in the middle. But yes, we still need an AM to complete the picture.
