Done some reading, yeah, there’s something potentially serious in here.

In Reading FC’s case, Mr Howe has reportedly obtained a County Court Judgment claiming he’s owed almost £100,000. This CCJ is a critical step — it proves the debt exists in the eyes of the law, making it much easier to justify a winding-up petition.

Once a petition is issued, the company has just seven days before it’s advertised in The Gazette. After advertisement, the company’s bank accounts are typically frozen, making it virtually impossible to trade. A court hearing follows roughly four to eight weeks later, where a judge will decide whether to wind up the company.

Sigh. Well, I presume Couhig would sooner pay up this relatively small fee than have the accounts frozen for a couple of months.

I guess the question is which company hired him to make the sale? Obviously it was Dai and Pang's decision, but if the contract was with RFC then surely we have to pay him?

If the original Telegraph article is correct, then we’re already past the questions of who might owe what debt to who.

You'd expect the club to have fought the CCJ, but its not unheard of for them to be wrong.

yeah, and what particularly worries me here is that there's a fundamental disagreement about the debt. My limited knowledge is that really narrows down the options available, particularly as this is all against a ticking clock, the week before Christmas.

There is zero chance this turns into anything serious. Couhig is a stubborn bastard, but even he would not let an asset he's paid >£20m to get liquidated over a £100k dispute.

Not a chance! It's a routine occurrence for many businesses, particularly those that sale close to the wind re their contractual commitments.

The limit is £100K, so guess where the snake Nogood Howe and his lawyers pitched his claim!

Why is a former employee who believes he is owed money by the club a snake exactly? This sort of claim should all have been sorted out as part of the sale in the first place. If he really has no claim against the club then that will be sorted by the legal arguments going on, so leave them all to it before passing comment.

Nigel’s claim is extremely unlikely to bring the club down and has not caused the FL to stick the club back into embargoes or under other restrictions so just let the experts get on with things in the background and eventually something will be agreed one way or another.

You seem to be confused. Howe didn't own Reading, Dai did. Howe was a facilitator, not a decision maker.

Tbh, I don’t care. I don't really care how legit the amount owed is, how much Howe has tried to get it by other means.

He's trying to profit off our misfortune, and putting the club he was supposedly trying to save at risk just to line his pocket. He can do one.
