My hunch is Brentford will be on the 8th and Oxford 15th, mainly because the Oxford match is a likely Cat B/C and requires additional police resources. The extra week allows them to resource better.

Makes sense, plus Brentford play Chelsea on Friday night 18th.

And whilst their fans are giving it the big 'un, this could well be one of those games that has a twist to it. Also, even though we're a league below Brum, I reckon Andrews will definitely have more concerns about this tie. Listen Jack, whatever top flight we drew it would always be the same story, we got Stevenage fans were moaning because it was a nothing game, now we get a PL team we`re all crying out because we`re going to get hammered.
Of course it`s likely to be true, just like it would be against all the top half PL sides, you can`t have it both ways.
I`m just happy we`re sharing the same pitch with players we see on MOTD every Saturday night.
0-6 0-7 or 1-0 2-1, that`s the way football works, bring it on.

Not fussed about that, rather see Liverpool, United, Arsenal players than the also rans of other premier league sides. More hacked off with fact that when Brentford have won Reading won’t have had much of a payday out of it. Brentford will probably sell out given the local nature and expectation of a comfortable win but I can’t see Reading fans being particularly excited, so any cash windfall for the club will sadly be minimal.

Also need to remember, that the League Cup is now 90mins than penalties. So we don't even need to beat them to progress, just not lose in 90mins then be better at pens.

Yep, completely agree. We had a glimpse of this life back in 2006/2007 but it didn't last long. Brentford seem to have got the balance right between spending and developing players. Every time I see them play I always get a tinge of envy as it just highlights how far we've fallen. I think this will be even more apparent when we play them

Bournemouth have done well but have spent much more money than Brentford and Brighton in achieving their aim of staying in the Premier League but have also , as the others have, sold well.

We didn't make the most of our golden chances to stay at the top level, for various reasons, but these clubs have and are likely to stay there for a few years yet because they are so well run.

Those clubs now buy at Waitrose spending £30 or£40 million on a player whereas we are now looking at freebies from a food bank.

We can now confirm the date for our Carabao Cup Third Round tie, with Premier League Brentford visiting the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Keith Andrews' Bees will make their first trip to RG2 in five years on Tuesday 15th September, kicking off at 8pm.

Full ticket details, including pricing, will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, our away match at Oxford United, originally scheduled for Tuesday 8th September, has now been postponed.

The fixture will be rearranged for a later date, with full details to be confirmed in due course.

All at Reading Football Club share our supporters' frustration at the postponement of our trip to the Kassam Stadium. We would have been ready and willing to fulfil the fixture on its original date, but circumstances outside of our control mean that will no longer be possible.

We will communicate the new date to supporters as soon as it has been agreed.

Surely the League Cup game being on the 15th should have no impact on the Oxford game, unless there's some policing reason behind it?

Oxford United's EFL Sky Bet League One fixture against Reading at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday 8 September has been postponed.

The fixture has been moved due to Reading's progression to Round Three of the Carabao Cup.

A new date will be confirmed in due course.

Total administrative **** up by both teams then. Sounds like they failed to talk to each other and just assumed despite what Reading posted about the Ox fixture in the public domain back when it was originally rearranged.
