The Sam Allardyce rumour is all over the web and some bookies even suspended betting on it.

His agent has ruled out the move though.

Reading transfer news:

Reading will sign 3 or 4 more players before the new season.
Their key targets are John Mensah and Dean Whitehead. The Royals had a bid thought to be in the region of £4m accepted for Mensah and are currently holding personal talks, though he will probably be signed in this press conference on Friday.
Coppell has put in a final bid of £2m for Dean Whitehead, after having two bids (£1.2m and £1.7m) turned down. Whitehead is keen to move to Reading but and Sunderland would probably find a bid of £2m too hard to resist.
Reading are also looking to sign one more central defender, after Aaron Brown broke his foot. Targets include Matt Kilgallon, Danny Shittu and Matt Upson, and Reading put in a bid for Kilgallon this week.

I know Adam Federici's dad and he tells me that Adam said that Steve Coppell said that there will be a press conference on Friday to announce Reading's signing of John Mensah.
Looks liek Adam Federici's dad is a man in the know.

I know Darren Caskey's brother and he says that Darren will be joining the Reading coaching staff next week, the ex-Royals star is delighted to be rejoining and is looking forward to working with Steve Coppell.

I saw John Mensah at the Madjeski Stadium earlier today with Steve Coppell and John Madjeski.

Having missed out on Bernado Corradi, Reading are looking to sign Javier Portillo at a cut price £1m deal, due to his contract set to expire next July.

Reading are looking to sell right-back John Halls, after an unsuccesful spell with the club following his move from Stoke in January.
Halls is now extremely unlikely to get into the first team next season with Graeme Murty, Sam Sodje and Curtis Osano ahead of him in the pecking order.
Derby, Southampton and Preston are all set to match his £150k asking price.

Reading are hoping to tie up the signing of John Mensah by the end of next week. The Royals had a £4.2m bid accepted for the Ghanaian Defender and will hold talks over the weekend, once he has returned from Ghana.
The Royals are still awaiting a response from Sunderland after making a final offer of £2m from ex-Oxford midfeilder Dean Whitehead. Steve Coppell has already had 2 bids rejected for him and says he will not up his bid again.
Coppell will also try to make three more signings aswell, one will be a striker, one will be a midfeilder and one will be a defender. The Striker will probably be one of: Mikael Forsell, Javier Portillo or Heidar Helguson. Reading have targetted midfeilder Robert Koren and are set to make a £1m bid for the Slovenian International.
The other defender will most likely be one of the following: Matt Kilgallon, Danny Shittu, Youl Mawene
