Friday a legend of course, but Tom Jenkins? I remember him showing fabulous skills and looking a real prospect, but he went toi the then 'massive' Southampton.. Can't recall him doing too much down there.

Not just losing 'Our Robin' but seeing him go to a club going nowhere (then or since), and for the insulting sum of just £30,000.

Surely 30K wasn't quite such a small sum of money back in those days. Also, I believe Charlie Hurley had realised the writing was on the wall, even he was struggling to have any control of RF's excesses, and that the very bright star was soon to burn out. He therefore decided to move him on and get what he could whilst the player was still worth something. If so, his judgement was proved right.

At the time I was still very disappointed to see Robin Friday leave though.

Yeah, the 6-8 goals a season average was a massive loss.

Mine have to be Micheal Gilkes, Jamie Cureton and Adrian Williams.

3 very good players for this football club, and helped us grow and mature into the team that we are now.

I would of been gutted if Nicky Forster had moved on 2-3 years before he did, because the guy was awesome, there wasnt any other striker in that league that could play up front on his own and create the chances he did for others Andy Hughes included.

Cureton was never given the chance he should of been given, considering he scored a goal that I will always remember away at Brentford. Who knows where we would be if we had lost that game at Brentford, certainly not the premiership!!

Not mentioned yet that i can see, but the last one that annoyed me when he left was Jamie Ashdown.

Local lad who had a superb end to the 2004 season and i genuinely believed could go on and be our best ever keeper and maybe even to play for his country.

Unfortunately as seems to happen all too often these days he saw the pound signs and instant gratification and chose not to fight for a place here. Despite how well Marcus has subsequently done i believe Ashdown would have eventually won that battle.

Bit extreme, I jsut thought he'd be a decent keeper.

Wasn't first choice here, offered more money in the prem and a similar role as backup and took it. I remember coming home from holliday summer before last and he was on the bus going back to the car park from one of the terminals. I made some cocky comment to him about "should never of left reading, woeful decision". He said "why not mate?". I simply didn't have a valid reason so claimed I was joking and wished him good luck.
He had quite a nice girlgriend, but I thought is was darius henderson at first for some reason.

Ashdown did have a couple of runs in the Portsmouth 1st team but then Perrin came in and bought a load of foreign Goalies. Would have been nice to still have Jamie but he didn't set the south coast on fire.


Would have to be Shaka for me. He was there when I first went to EP and always stood behind his goal. Really nice to hear the whole crowd chant "What's the score?" to him when we were winning. And the sun was shining!

The problem with being a goalkeeper in getting the opportunity to play and prove yourself.

By choosing Pompey and not fighting for his place here ( a fight i believe he would have won ultimately ) he was always going to be up against it with Premiership expectations.

As for the Country thing it's all "Ifs and buts" but there has certainly been ample opportunity for an English goalkeeper playing regularly to be a part of the England set-up. Green,Carson & Kirkland ( Robinson for that matter ) are hardly Worldbeaters.

Paul Cannoville for me. I know injury ended his career, but in the few games he did play for us I feel he took us to another level. looking back over the years, and bearing in mind I was about 13 at the time, he was the first player I saw at Reading with that "star" quality, he could do things others players in the team at the time could only dream of, and it wasn't a bad team!. In my eyes a Legend.

i would like to have seen joe gamble hang around a bit longer at that time he was a mini parky before he got injured and went to barnet and the real kingsley royal...never been the same since he had a hair cut
