Sums up the utter cr@pness of officiating in this country. While I think things like that should be punished with a straight red because there is no attempt to play the ball, just a desire to hack the player down, under the current interpretation it isn’t a red so why the **** aren’t the idiots on VAR asking the ref to at least have another look?

The way West Ham fans turned on him for having the temerity to only win them a European trophy and have them mid-table was quite something.

But yeah - he has been an unqualified success at three different clubs, and isn't thought of as a top, top manager.

His spells at Sociedad and Sunderland are blemishes, but with hindsight I don't think you can be too critical of his Man Utd spell, which is what really tanked his reputation.

I do think sometimes it’s time for a change. We had this discussion about Leicester and Rodgers previously where I thought he’d overstayed his welcome there and ultimately he was part of the reason for their relegation

Where I do agree with you is the gall of their fans for turning on him and how they saw European football as a basic expectation as opposed to it being an overachievement given their budget and squad relative to teams around them
