Absolutely marvellous evening, despite the weather. Cracking game, good crowd, decent sing-song and I finally saw Slough win a penalty shoot-out! (I missed the B&B Cup one last year v Beaconsfield). General agreement that it was a fair result, even from the Sutton manager Paul Doswell, which is good to hear. Bring on the Gills...

P.S. The 2nd greatest cup competition is in town on Saturday, so for those not braving the delights of Wigan, it's Slough Town v Weston-Super-Mare at Arbour Park in the FA Trophy, for those who fancy an Arbour Park experience...

I went to Bristol Manor Farm 1 - 2 Highworth Town on Saturday.

Its the closet a train line comes to a football ground. The Bristol TM - Sevenbeach line runs almost down the touchline. there is only enough room for one to stand in front of the railway fence. So there was me, poised with camera in hand, at 3:12 waiting to get the 'money shot' with a Sevenbeach service that never arrived. Bus replacement service weekend, wasnt it.

Superb ground, went there last month for Slough's FAC3Q replay. Can vouch for the narrow railway side, probably the friendliest welcome at any match for years, and the dreadful smell at the far end away from the entrance by the creek...

Went to see Ox City on Tuesday night for the replay against Tranmere.
It didn't quite live up to the 3-3 thriller at Prenton Park and Tranmere had a convincing 2-0 win, they really looked the pro side. A decent attendance for the Hoops.

I recommend a trip to Marsh Lane for anyone wanting something abit different from a non league ground, the 3G pitch is a little odd but their fans are great. Some great pricing for food and drink too!

'boro with Perry Coles returned up front won it in the 89'. Ball knocked in on the back post from a corner, by a big forward (Marc Charles-Smith) they'd signed from Wingate & Finchley, that morning.
- James Harper came on for the visitors with about 8' left, to try and shore up the midfield and hang on for a point after they'd been reduced to 10'.
Did his customary scuttling about, pointing a lot but looked a bit lost in the box, when the decisive corner came over - not that he would have been tracking the big fellah .

Didn't see a non-league game this weekend, but went with a mate up to Carlisle. He'd already been to Carlisle, so while I went to Brunton Park, he drove a couple of miles down the road to watch Carlisle City in a North West Counties League Division One Cup tie v Eccleshall.

He was one of only 49 fans there, but had not a bad day, as Carlisle City won 11-2.


My enthusiasm for seeing Reading at Bracknell in the Berks & Bucks Cup has dimmed somewhat after seeing the weather forecast. It looks like pretty much a solid day of rain, and Larges Lane really isn't a venue to visit when it's raining.

– some news is emerging about their future ground prospects – the ‘White Tigers’ are currently sharing at Plainmoor but they may be returning to Treyew Rd in the New Year.
- Bad news is that the development consortium, including Lidl has been dissolved, leaving only the construction developers to continue with the project.
There are repair works required to enable a return but contractually Truro can play there for the remainder of this season. To remain at STEP02 they will either have to find another groundshare agreement (unlikely) or come to an agreement to extend their contract with the developers (JIL) who remain bound to the contract that ensures they could still play there up until at least next September. Could get very messy …….

- was at this – dreadful M’way clog as usual around Chertsey and A3 was reportedly at a standstill close to the M25 nr Cobham, so carried on to jn 9 and headed up the A243. Usual w/e shopping traffic slowed us again from Tolworth and beyond, so arrived more or less at KO – having left with at least 45’ to spare. Fortunately Imperial Fields does have plenty of parking spaces.
- Robins raced into to a deserved 2 goal lead; Seb Bowerman set up Joe Grant for the first and notched the 2nd from the spot although the penalty was announced and credited to Ferdie?
- T&M came into it more 2nd half with the introduction of some lively subs and Bracknell seemed to seize up – Carl Davies did what he could in defence but was out manoeuvred for the first and stranded for the 2nd with the other defenders going missing. Did well to hang on to a point but were still trying to force a win in the last 20’ following the ‘Terrors’ leveller.
- quite a large intimidatory Stadium with banked terracing and seats on three sides giving it an enclosed feel. Some vociferous home fans too but a few hardy E.Baaarks lads could be heard at their end. Was a good fast game and Bracknell probably should have shaded it but did wilt late on especially down the flanks.

Local journo Rob Stevens: I spoke with Windsor manager Mick Woodham about Carl Davies and his situation at Bracknell Town tonight.

Mick tells me Carl had been “feeling the pain” for a few weeks now had and grown frustrated by people wanting to butt in with his duties at the football club.

He did not sympathise will Carl though as it has gone on record he did the same with previous managers and knew what he was getting into when taking on the job.

Rob Stevens: I’m told Carl has not lost face with any local managers however I quote Flackwell boss Marcus Richardson when saying to be manager of Bracknell Town you need “a strong backbone and eyes in the back of your head” - read into that what you will.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - he’s a right piece of work that chairman, and it rarely succeeds long-term with an interfering megalomaniac in charge of a club. Implosion may not be just around the corner but it’ll happen in the end.

I can't go into the who's and wheres but this has indeed been coming. I was in a meeting last week at the club and there were rumblings. Mark Tallentire is very much in charge of the football side of things, he does butt in from what I am told. I wouldn't believe all you hear and read about the chairman though, he's nowhere near as bad as is made out. A lot of other local clubs are envious of Bracknell's financial situation, ground and potential and spout a lot of unfounded nonsense which isn't really fair. He's ruthless yes but he doesn't involve himself in team selcetion etc.

I wouldn't knock him for the way the club has been progressing though. It's a great facility they have there now and it really seems a club on the up, which is good.

A Football Director shouldn't be involved in selection and tactics either, unless the manager asks him to be. I'm sure Tally does want to manage though, he's been a manager for years and didn't appear to want to take a back seat at all when he was manager before. It makes appointing him Football Director an odd move, especially with a young Player/Manager who brought in his own staff with him (Geoff Warner and Gavin Smith).
