Yes, he never played in division 4, only division 3. Decent midfielder who, while never spectacular, worked hard and you could generally be sure he’d be decent week in, week out. There was talk of Sunderland or someone far up north being interested before he left but nothing developed so probably just an uncorroborated rumour. Don’t really understand why he left for Gloucester rather than stay for another season but then Reading were totally brassic by then so probably couldn’t afford to turn down any offer.

Keith Knight was a more than adequate Div 3 player and was an excellent signing for £7,000.

Given that he signed from a club in Gloucestershire and moved back to a club in Gloucestershire, In all likelihood he never moved down to Reading so the rigours of commuting plus the undoubtedly shit pay he was on probably meant he was better off playing part time and holding down a career outside football.

Pretty sure he ended up back at Cheltenham (when they were still non league) and played against us years later in the cup - terry the taxi days.

Interestingly* here's an interview with him talking about getting promoted into the Football League with Cheltenham where he says it was an easy decision to quit because he was in his 30's, had a good job, a young family and didn't want to give it up for the slog of being a full time lower league professional.

Yes he did, the usual awful cup game struggle where Reading made a non league team look like the league outfit, but at least we used to still sneak through in those days. Think they had Clive Walker playing for them then too!

Ward can also play at LB, so one dedicated LB and two utility LBs. with two recent defenders signings gives LR flexibility to shuffle defenders around to meet LB crisis.

I’m not pretending this is good - it literally reflects a club going through multiple transitions, essentially three managers and one change of owner in a very short space of time.

In the “where have the owners gone wrong” thread, I pointed out that normal things were being picked up as abnormal. This is exactly that. A bit of context, a small rearrangement and it’s not ludicrously bad, with some issues that need attention.

At this fairly late stage it still feels to me that the club one or two players in mind that we would be confident in signing in time if the Azeez transfer to Brighton or elsewhere goes through.

Presumably the obvious one is the much needed striker but possibly other areas are in mind should late bids come in for Savage and/or Wing, our most saleable assets.

Maybe we overperform and can add some quality in January, but I have very little confidence in our apprentice CEO and Couhig's yes-men having the network, experience or pulling power to attract the calibre of player we actually need to take the next step.

The previous recruitment team looked considerably more experienced and, frankly, much better at identifying and attracting the right players.

The previous recruitment team were considerably better in all aspects than the ‘value’ hunters we currently have. Just look at the comparative value in fiscal terms they brought in without looking at the individual players’ playing performance. Night and day.

I think almost the exact opposite. First XI likely enough talent, not enough depth or experience.

As for recent recruitment: We had one superb summer, immediately upon relegation, plus our best manager in about a decade.

Next season, basically couldn’t and didn’t sign anyone.

This summer feels like the current team are learning from last year. Maybe it’s for the best some of the new players are being massively under-rated.

I am expecting absolutely nothing today now but if Azeez goes today and we suddenly have an extra six or seven figure sum incoming , then I wouldn't put a surprise late move out of the question.

Brighton rumoured to have made a £12m bid for Azeez, but Millwall reportedly holding out for nearer £15m. Personally think Liverpool should just cut out the middleman, give up on Minteh and just go straight in for Azeez.

Will we get a solidarity payout as well as the sell on payout if he does move?

Latest report I’ve seen suggests Brighton want Azeez and don’t want to muck about. Seems they may well next bit £15m + a young player that they value at £10m, as it’s getting late in the day and the ‘wall would need a replacement for Azeez. Therefore the value of the total deal would be £25m but if that does happen would Reading be due a percentage of £15m or £25m?

No one able to confirm what the sell on percentage actually is, only that there is one. If we take it as a conservative 10% though then we’d get a £1.5m payout on a £15m sale.
