Yes that does not seem right, surely Winterton should be reinstated and have to play Whitley Bay next Saturday with their league game scheduled for that date rearranged for later in the season.

As regards ineligibility, at the end of the day the buck should stop with the player as they must know whether they’ve played in a cup game or not (presume being an unused sub doesn’t make a player ineligible though) and therefore should speak up if they’re included in a team for a cup competition for a new club.

And while it does look shoddy and a bad reflection on the clubs that fall foul of the rules, it’s understandable given that these clubs are run by people who are not full time and very likely holding down a day job etc. so mistakes are more likely to be made from time to time.
