He was onside but the linesman can be forgiven, we sit in Y21 and bang in line with it, we all called it 'offside' soon as he passed it. What I think happened was as the ball was crossed, Ingimarsson was right next to the crosser. As that ball goes across, Viduka is way ahead of Sonko, and with the crosser partially blocking the linesman's view (also with Ivar very close to him) Viduka looks way offside from that angle. It's only on a still photo, (which of course the lino doesn't see) that you can see clearly he's well onside. I'm not sure that the lino even sees Ivar.

We'll get something go against us, more than likely at somewhere like Stamford Bridge or OT like everyone else gets nothing

Its football; as long as there are humans making decisions, incorrect decisions will be made (tho I think the lino can be forgiven for this one as it was marginal - even with the hindsight of super slow mo)

It could be argued that you are due a break after the penalty against you (had it been someone like Jagielka thru at Anfield and the same happened, think it would have been given??)

Though the worst decision by a long way was the pen decision against Watford - stunningly stupid!! Had THAT happened against you I think Colin would have gone into orbit....

I noticed something watching highlights last night.

The point where they froze it then isn't the point where the ball was played. The player dummied the ball so he had it for at least two seconds after that..

In my considered opinion, the habit they have on MOTD and other progs of freezing the action at the exact moment the pass is made does linesmen no favours at all.

Good point. And it opens up another area for debate. MOTD and Sky freeze it just as the foot touches the ball. But has it been kicked at this point? No. It has been kicked when the foot moves forward propelling the ball forward. In this very close decision I feel that Viduka was offside by the time the foot moved forward. So, to repeat the point - when is the ball actually passed if not as I suggest?

You could say that the pass occurs when the ball actually parts company with the passers's foot - as long as he has contact with the ball he hasn't passed it.

I'd upload a video of it but i need to sort out a transfer from video to my comp as i don't have a dvd recorder. But there was a definate dummy after that freeze as he tried to round the nearest defender whilst viduka ran into an offside position.

Incorrect; having watched the all the video replays frame by frame, I have noted that Viduka does not stray into an offside position until he puts the ball into the net when it does not matter.

It was not a goal, because in the opinion of the officials he was offside. REMEMBER – the referee’s decision is final.

i think that was balanced out by the rugby tackle from harper? on keeeeff.

No point worrying about it all the promoted teams will have to deal with the refs being biased towards the big teams this year. The same happened every time we played them in the cups, and it will never change

Best analysis of this, and I hate to say it, was by Andy Gray on Sunday night. Used the virtual reality view and span it around to show the linesmans view, from where he was he "guessed" that viduka was probably offside as he was a couple of yards behind play. Not IMO a bad decision, but a human decision, that on this occasion, went in our favour.
