Can’t imagine Longlevens will add many to the gate.

When we played them away in 2018/19 the gate was a paltry 48 with about half of those from Windsor!

Back to Basingstoke Town tomorrow - really enjoy going there. Home to Wimborne, there is a chance. Another biggish crowd expected.

For anyone who does visit the new ground, park at the leisure park, car park towards Milestones and its a five minute walk through underpass to the ground. Car parking is also free.

...yeah on the face of it it does seem an unlikely game to draw a big crowd BUT it is between two Glawster clubs and it's a new-ish Stadium - can't have had more than a handful of games there since the re-opening - just maybe captured the local imagination?

Chappy I know from Oxford, went to the new ground (Meadow Park) a week or so back and there was a certainly a buzz about this tie and (probably optimistic) rumbles about a sell-out - agree that seems a bit of a stretch - will check on line tomorrow PM and see how it looks.

...they've pulled in two gates over 2k for their 2 NAT-N league games v York & Kettering but only got 800 last week for Curzon Ashton.

Not sure what the official capacity is yet, as they may not have finished all of the ground but it's probably close to 3k.

Agree on the Longlevens crowds too - I've been to Saw Mills a couple of times and the seating is stretched along a narrow couple of rows within an elongated bus-shelter type plastic stand .... and most of the crowd fitted inside with plenty to spare!

- got tickets in advance & some of the seated areas were sold out.
- Got here in good time - roads OK but approaches to the new Stadium a bit clogged – not sure they’ve nailed down the parking quite yet – found a Builders Yard offering £5 match day almost next to the Stadium
- Crowd estimated (maybe official now) as 2320 and it did seem nearly full. ‘Levens’ gave great account of themselves on and off the pitch - big boisterous following (wonder where they all came from – their own average crowds hover just under three figures?)
- STEP02 ‘Tigers’ were seriously troubled by their lesser (STEP05) ‘cousins’ especially first half but superior technique and fitness told in the end.
- Well stewarded and the ticketing worked fine just the hospitality not quite bedded in yet – suspect they’ve got plans to make the outlets for the spectator facilities more permanently founded – all had a bit of temporary feel to them
- bar was busy on one side and just about coped but queues were a tad longer/slower than they needed to be
- The food outlet also struggled very badly especially after the break – I queued for c. 20’ and decided to give up, rather than invest any more time in receiving what could probably have been a tepid burger with fairly thin insipid looking chips. The chap in front of me in the almost non-moving queue, with two youngsters in tow, walked past me later with his food about 5’ before the end….. I think it was just badly planned e.g. they didn’t seem to be able to have a steady supply of food on the go and had to keep starting new batches of everything hence long pauses with staff standing idle and punters mumbling about lack of supply.

74 Tiverton Town 1-3 Sholing
75 Basingstoke Town 3-4 Wimborne Town att 540
76 Frome Town 2-1 Oxford City another STEP02 side upset
77 Poole Town 1-1 Chippenham Town
78 Weston super Mare 5-1 Taunton Town
79 Shaftesbury 0-1 Bath City
80 Hungerford Town 1-0 Truro City – Crusaders edge thru with 80’ winner from Keith (2 m’s 8) ) Emmerson.
81 Yate Town 2-0 Gosport Borough
82 Lymington Town 2-2 Hereford

League
NAT
Grimsby Town 2-0 Eastleigh
Notts County 1-0 Maidenhead United ‘Magpies’ lose to early 2nd half goal – at the ‘Magpies’…..
Wealdstone 2-2 Aldershot Town – ‘Sh!ts’ come back twice from behind to get a point

SL1-C
Kempston Rovers 2-0 Didcot Town
Kidlington
3-1 Barton Rovers
North Leigh 2-0 St Neots Town – ‘Nor Lye’ stay top – 2nd placed Berko dropped points at FC Romania
SL1-S
Highworth Town 4-1 Bideford - Edwards hat-trick in the first half-hour

IL1-SC
Bracknell Town 1-0 Uxbridge – att 252 ace Dave Tarpey on the mark around 35’ puts ‘Robins’ clear at the top – though Marlow in 4th have 2 games in hand and are still 100% – the clubs currently due to meet on Mon 27th Sept

Chalfont St Peter 0-3 Binfield – goals from Gator, Harris and Tack sees the ‘Moles’ up in 4th.
South Park 2-0 Thatcham Town
Staines Town 3-1 Westfield ‘Swans’ first points of the season
– bottom are Guernsey yet to play
- some thoughts that due to the ongoing ‘Vids’ concerns and CI State restrictions, they may be forced into hiaitus again this season but that could result in them being dropped back to the CCL next term.
- Should the regulations ease to allow an influx of off-island travellers then – according to a press-release late last month - they hope to start their season next month(October) – the (Pitching In) Isthmian League have agreed this in principal.

CCL-PN
Fri Virginia Water 2-2 Holyport

HELL1
Abingdon United 0-5 Studley - AbU now nil points from 9 games….. :(
Milton United 3-1 Malmesbury Vics

SSMP
Holmer Green 0-6 Crawley Green

- Due to nearly every M’way A(M) road we went on/near being kf%c£ed yesterday (Saturday) we gave up on Peterborough Northern Star and diverted off to an SSM1 fixture having crawled half-way up the A1(M)
- Letchworth Garden City Eagles 0-1 Rushden & Higham – ground tucked around behind the Herts FA HQ and the local Rugby Club/Leisure centre so all quite new and tidy – masses of parking – football clubhouse set out nicely too.
- Only got a few left in this division now but of the 4 remaining (I think) 2 of the grounds are adjacent to larger clubs that we have visited and the other one is a ‘move’/re-visit so no great rush to complete.

WESSP
Alresford Town 1-1 Baffins Milton Rovers
Fareham Town 1-2 Alton decent win for the 'Brewers' here – though ‘The Creeksiders’ do seem to be much stronger on their travels so far this season (is it me or does the name conjure up visceral images of American Slasher/Serial Murderers? :? )

WESS1
Andover New Street {SEVEN} 7-1 Petersfield Town
Fleet Spurs
1-1 Totton & Eling
Infinity 0-2 Andover Town
New Milton Town 3-2 Whitchurch United

Spelthorne Sports 2-0 Windsor

I know we have a number of injuries but the number of players supposedly in the squad (many of whom have played once or twice) means we should be able to put out a decent team capable of a better performance than this insipid display.

However, I suspect at least half the names on the squad list have just been given to us for a week or 2 by other clubs for whom they are fringe players just to give them a game. But I don’t know that for sure because no news comes out of the club.

The website and social media updates are almost non-existent so we have no idea what’s going on with the team, who is unfit, when they might be back etc. and every team sheet looks very different from the previous one.

Oh yes, we do now have a weekly minute or 2 interview with the manager - flash background production values but full of cliches and not a lot else.

I’ve been saying it for a couple of years but I really don’t think the manager has a clue what he’s doing.

I made a decision this season not to do away games, in part to manage the amount of pain I inflict on myself but had to go yesterday assuming that James Harper would be in the squad.... but of course he wasn’t!

I hope Harper still has a strong work ethic, a lot of patience and a desire to help less talented players (and the manager!) improve and perform to their potential - if he’s not up for that, after one training session he just might decide this Challenge is not for him. I actually suspect, despite the announcement of him signing for us, it’s just a brief emergency loan, nothing more.

As some of the locals told me pre-game, Spelly are nowhere near as good as they have been, have a very young side and are struggling - well that may be the case but they were far too good for our hapless bunch.

Most of the players we have had passed our way by the likes of Beaconsfield, Binfield and Maidenhead have been decent (as you’d expect) but special mention for one from Binfield who started on Saturday - Joel Valentine.... he was comically bad in every respect.

I do find it somewhat surprising a well off area like Windsor doesn't have someone who can run a football club.

The level Windsor are at is sharing players with literal pub sides.

I am completely out of the loop but have they sorted the ground lease long term yet?

No.

Trouble is the Chairman and his "assistant" just won't accept any proper help in doing anything - I know loads of people (runs into 10s) who have been volunteers over the years but just walk away after a while because nothing ever changes, no control is ever relinquished so nothing can get done.

The website is always out of date, social media is sporadic and uninformative - these are areas where others have been involved in the past and suddenly improved massively but as soon as it looks better the information dries up from within the club, so there is nothing to post and the guys say "sod it then, have it back".

As for the lease - the Chairman has soured things with the Crown so it just seems to be a ridiculous impasse where nothing can ever move forward whuilst he is in charge - others have offered to help but as soon as anyone gets close to actually doing anything the blocks are put in place and it goes nowhere. We even had a new Chairman in place for a week a few years ago but as soon as he started to do something positive he found he wasn't actually allowed to do anything so walked away. (That's the story anyway although I couldn't vouch for its accuracy.)

So many good people willing to help but while Kevin and Malcolm are around won't go near it anymore as the frustrations of working with them have driven them to distraction. Some of those won't even come to games anymore.

I've never worked with him and (probably as a result of being devoid of that experience) actually like Kevin - his heart is in the right place but it seems he is an autocrat and that just doesn't work in a volunteer environment - they are not his minion employees.

Still, for lower non league, the pitch is to die for!

My son is playing against Windsor in the County Cup in a couple of weeks. Do they use the first team pitch for youth football Rother?

Yes they do. (For U18s.)

Let me know when that is and I'll come down. I generally go and watch the home games but haven't been down yet this season.

The U18s have started the season pretty well, beating Didcot and Hartley Wintney in the last 2 games.

Ah he isn't that old, he's an under 13. Sometimes when he plays against decent level sides they stick them on the main pitch which is nice.

Ah, well they do sometimes yes - if it is at Stag Meadow then it will be the main pitch as the only other facility there is a training pitch that is not full size.

Thats good to hear - Basingstoke Town are doing that more but then i found out that to hire the current pitch that the first team play on is the same as one of the pitches at a school in the JPL for the whole season!!

His football has been pretty cool to be honest, far better than the shit I had to play on when I was his age. He is fortunate enough to play for the two strongest teams in our area at the weekends who often will play against the likes of Sutton United, Aldershot, Bedfont, Whyteleafe etc who all have fairly decent facilities. They normally always play on the first team pitch which is good of the clubs I think, could easily be precious about it.
Ironically one of the clubs he plays for doesn't allow the youth sides to play on the main home pitch.

Yeah, its a real shame Basingstoke Town dont own Winklebury as being 4G it would be multi use but prices from HFA are extortianate.

By the way, good to see you back - with your 15 month absence I must admit I had wondered whether you were a Covid victim!

Out of the area and not much to say with no football for a long period! It's only seeing James Harper news that piqued any remaining interest.

Royal Rother Spelthorne Sports 2-0 Windsor

And after 1 game, it's just been announced that he's joined Ascot.

Fcuking pathetic and predictable (as you can see).

Went to Wallingford v Burnham on Tuesday- Berks and Bucks senior cup tie. Wallingford looked a half decent team whereas i thought Burnham were extremely poor.
