Evening spizz. I posted on twitter about the poor local journalism at the moment and Tim contacted me asking me to give him a ring.

Good evening to you too, don’t do twitter, tik tok nor much nothing at all.
Fair does, well done.
The guy takes pelters on here from ‘one or two discerning listeners’’, so great to hear from the other side for a change.

Absolute credit to Tim here.

Hope James Earnshaw can work through whatever the issues are that he has and can return to his previous standards.

Thanks.

If I've read your summary correctly, Tim Dellor's explanation for the dearth of local football journalism is:

"it’s tragic we don’t have that sort of thing any more but that’s the way digital media has gone."

....

That was referring to the kind of coverage we used to have in local papers. Now, we don’t really have local papers, whatever the names says on the front page.

^this

If anybody has ever delved into the realms of ‘In Your Area’ (the Evening Post’ replacement), you will see that it it is neither ‘local’ (despite setting up your account for RG news) and is nothing much more than an advertisement platform….RFC (or any sport Reading based) barely even exists

Yup...

Bit like Jackson's Department store - everyone was sad when it closed down, yet not enough people shopped there...

I shopped in there a fair bit, it was like a timeslip into the 1950s. Sad in that it was a bit of the history of the locale when it closed but don't really miss it.

At least the Heelas name is still there, but Knights is the shop I most miss.

I asked him about losing the rights to do the Royals Tv commentary and he said it was a blessing. saying first and foremost he’s doing radio commentary. TV commentary is different, he often forgets his commentary is being broadcast on the TV, so it didn’t always come across very well for people watching the game, as opposed to those listening on the radio. And in fact he said it was unusual to have the bbc commenting on the club TV . 99% of clubs do it in house

It's a pity Royals TV commentators forget that they are also doing audio and waffle on about nothing about football and we miss what is going on on the the pitch. Anyone know how big an aerial I need to listen to BBC Berks. directly in the west of England?

Presumably he didn't like doing the TV commentary because people could see how bad his commentary was and how he couldn't get the players right, never corrected his mistakes and often had no idea why something was happening when it was fairly obvious.

Not that commentary is an easy gig

On the other hand, it's very much to Tim's credit as a person that he got in touch, discussed things openly, and looked after James in a hard time.

TV commentary is entirely different to radio commentary. With TV you don't/shouldn't really vocalise every touch of the ball etc as people can obviously see what's happening anyway. While in radio you have to really describe what's going on in the action for 90 minutes. Tim is an excellent cricket commentator.

Coincidence - or has he been reading HNA and decided to follow up?

Will your “interview” be on his 6pm show tonight?

I reckon they all read this, and prob someone from the club does too. This site has a good range of fans with many years of following the team from around the country and there isn't as much of the reactionary stuff as there is on Twitter etc.

I pity the bastards if they do.

It’s ok Ian - they have you on Ignore
