Brill, I understand and I like it as it’s a good way of monitoring the position week on week.Stranded wrote:Essentially yes, as that takes GD out of the equation.blythspartan wrote:Sorry, if I sound dumb but if I use Derby as an example are you saying that they are currently 6 points behind us and they can get 24 more points. So if we beat Blackburn tomorrow but they lost to Coventry, then the magic number drops to 13.
Quite possibly the first sensible thing you've ever said on herepaultheroyal wrote:oxf*rd that.
Let me make this easy for everyone.
We need four wins, simple as that. Starting tomorrow.

Good stuff. Loved the magic number stuff in 2006.Stranded wrote:Quick thread to keep track on what needs to happen for us to stay up.
For those not familiar with the magic number, it is the total number of points that need to be won or dropped for us finish above the sides below us. A win for us drops the number by 3, whilst a defeat for any of those below also decreases the number by 3.
So in any round of games, the total may drop by 6 points. Will be one magic number per side and as it, hopefully, drops to zero will drop that side off the list.
Magic Number
Barnsley - 26
Peterboro - 21
Derby - 19
Will update after every round of games.
I can try a pale imitation if you'd like.Hendo wrote:I miss the Rouge-o-meter.
Or just beat them 3-0 in two weeks' time.South Coast Royal wrote:We could do with Barnsley getting a few thrashings.
At the moment our goal difference is -30 and theirs is -24.
Disagree about this x number of wins - so many variables that it’s too simplistic to say that.paultheroyal wrote:The only stat you need…
3 more wins (might be two if we beat Barnsley)
