Scored 12 in 42 in a dreadful team. But becuase he was our club record signing at the time, was it 750k? He got a lot of stick. He was, imo a useful striker and we got shot of him the next season which was too soon. And could have been a good striker for us.

He was steady in his first season, which was curtailed by injury, a purple patch through January and February in his second season disguised the fact that he wasn't that great and he scored 1 goal in each of his 3rd and 4th seasons with us, both of which were injury time goals in 4-0 wins.

Up against the workrate and overall game of Kitson and Doyle, players who combined, cost a quarter of what he did, he was never going to look that good a player. I'd say Le Fondre was a better player than him too.

Having said that, I don't really remember anyone rating him that highly so maybe it is a bit harsh to label him as over-rated. Certainly wasn't a bad signing though.

I think there's a need for a thread on overrated and underrated positions/styles of play.

Karacan's job was to run around and make an unmitigated nuisance of himself in midfield, breaking up the opposition's play. As opposed to give them the freedom of the middle third, which a number of our midfielders have been guilty of. He actually did a decent enough job at that role for our level.
