When : Tuesday August 18, 2026, 7pm
Where : SCL Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Vertu Trophy game so a quick turn around for Reading to try and erase some of the opening day cr@p a bit quicker. Which youngsters will join which first teamers against what will be a similar Wycombe team?

Don't believe anything has changed in this competition from last season, in which case the following still applies -

Player eligibility

Each FL league club MUST play a minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player is one who meets any of the following requirements:
- Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture
- Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club who has made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions this season
- Any player with forty or more first-team starting appearances in their career, including International matches
- Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club
- A club can play any eligible goalkeeper in the competition
- Any player out on a long loan term at a National League, National League North, or National League South team can play as long as the loaning team agree to allow the player to return for the match

For invited teams (the U21 sides)

- Minimum of six players in the starting line-up who are aged under 21 on 30 June 2026
- Maximum of two players on the team sheet who are aged over 21 and have also made forty or more senior appearances

Referee

Isaac Searle, new referee to the league list

Previously

It`ll be interesting to see the CB pairing for this considering we don`t have any.

Wait, so a player on loan from a cat one academy counts, but players from our cat one academy don't?

What's the parking situation for these matches? Looked on the ticketing website and couldn't see an option to add parking...

This is wild! £15 for parking, and no buses running at all, not even the park and ride

Good night to try out the Green Park station option for those that haven't. Less than £4 for the return. Train at 6.32 gets in at 6.39. It's a 15-minute walk to the Megastore from the station. Earlier trains at 5.15, 5.38 and 5.57.

Hi, unfortunately, Reading Football Club does not own the car park, and there are costs associated with making the facility available on matchdays. This includes the cost of opening and operating the car park, as well as staffing it throughout the day to manage the facility and ensure it operates safely and effectively.

We appreciate that the increase in the parking charge may be disappointing for supporters. However, the revised charge reflects the increased costs involved in providing and operating the car park on matchdays.

The charge is not an additional fee retained by the Club, we do not make a profit on car parking.
I don't doubt any of the above. And obviously i'm not going to blame anyone at the club. As they've explained their posistion above.

But the car parks holds around 2000 cars (i just google it) 2000 cars x £15 = £30K. does it really cost 30k to put some cones out and a few blokes in yellow jackets for a few hours. Again this isnt a dig at the club, im just thinking aloud

That's just reminded me of the absolute jobsworth from the car parking company on Saturday holding back the buses for bloody ages. It was like an oven on the upstairs deck. Few people started remonstrating with her, as they normally let the buses out within 5 mins of them mostly being full.

I'd imagine there is some sort of fee to the owners to use it, and they're not going to get 2000 cars tonight.

I would assume a big chunk will be a fixed rent demanded by the Thais to use the land. There may also be other charges we can’t see that have to be covered by the parking fees - I wonder if they are charged anything by the council or police for licensing, traffic management, &c?

Yes absolutely the Thai’s own it. All revenue will be going to them.

Whats our usual attendance in the vertu? there are no buses running at all not even the mearoak park and ride or the f1 from Reading station. being a 7pm ko you’d think the car park is would have been in demand. I guess not at £15 though

According to the Beeb, 1,247 for the West Ham game last season and 1,623 for MK.
When you factor in there will be a certain amount of car sharing, I doubt the car park will be even half full.
I'd get the train if I was going. Or walk!

Didn’t realise Plus and elite subscribers get in for free tonight, I wonder if that might push the attendance up a bit. But agreed the car park won’t even be half full. It probably won’t have a single in it for the price
