Hob Nob Anyone?

After the reaction that David Norris' celebration got at the weekend, it made me think what would happen if Reading signed Luke Mccormick upon his release from prison.

Now, Lee Hughes is/was a Championship/Tier 2 ability Striker yet he stepped down a tier as Oldham were the only club to make him a solid offer.

If Reading were League Two and Mccormick was available would you complain if we signed him and he went onto keep more clean sheets in that divison than anyone before, could he win you over? Could you become a Luke Mccormick "fan".

Would you acknowledge his footballing performance and not talk about his past? Or would you be 100% dead against the signing of a convicted murderer?

Personally, If Reading signed him I'd question supporting the club.

Murder is a lot more serious offence than death by dangerous driving. It would be unfair to label him as a 'murderer' as he had no real intent to kill someone. I'm not defending what he did, but comparing him to a cold-blooded murderer, who killed with specific (or 'oblique') intent is unfair.

Pesonaly I dont care what they have done in the past when it comes to football, I would be much more concerned with their footballing ability. Everyone desearves a second chance, even if what they did really is low.

If he has served his time then yes, it is wrong to punish him further.

IMO he was very lucky not to be up for murder and if it was my two kids that he had killed, I would regard him as a murderous barsteward, even if the CPS and law didn't!

As far as I'm concerned, driving a car in the manner that he did and in the state that he was in made it extremely likely that he was going to seriously injure or kill someone and therefore is little different from setting out with the intent of doing just that. What makes matters worse (again IIRC) is that one of his friends rang him and asked him to stop driving, yet he still continued until he did kill someone.

I think people like him should be strung up in public and then have various parts of the car slowly and painfully inserted into him, then he might understand a little of the pain the family suffered. And the difference between murder and death by dangerous driving is just legal jargon, he is exactly the same as Ian Huntley in my eyes.

Having said this, if Hahnemann is still no.1 when he gets out, SIGN HIM UP!

Just ALOL at some of the comparisons between murder and causing death by dangerous driving in this thread some people have absolutely no idea what they are on about. Comparing Fred West to Luke McCormick is just laughable.

I'd be happy for a player with a conviction of some sort to play for the club provided they have enough ability to improve the side. After all, they'll have served their time, and will be back out to rebuild their life. I also don't remember anybody on this thread saying much about sacking Dave Kitson after his drink driving conviction which, if he was indeed over the limit, could have lead to a similar scenario...

Yes, yes, it was a different conviction (failing to provide a specimen), which leads most people to think that he had something to hide. The comparison is there for all to see.

but if you take the premeditated action of drinking when you know youll be driving, and then kill someone, i do see that as comparable to murder

its certainly more than killing someone in any other accidental way, because you know you arent safe to be in control of a vehicle, but you still do it

Whilst Sir Steve is manager it just wouldn't happen. He puts personality of a player VERY high up on teh list of attributes, so anyone with an inkling of unsavouriness on their character isn't going to be signed. Indeed, witness Leroy Lita's treatment after his various misdeameanors.

In fact, never mind Sir Steve, I would suggest whist ever Mr Mad is in charge we will not see miscreants signed for RFC. Byron Glasgow's treatment being a case in point.

Footballers will always be forgiven by the etam they play for. Doesn't matter if they have killed someone or not. Look at Patrick Kluivert for instance.
