RUMOUR - Spurs in for Hahnemann

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a shock bid for Reading's Marcus Hahnemann to ease his goalkeeping woes.

Redknapp has been exasperated by the inconsistent form of Brazilian Heurelho Gomes since taking charge in October.

The ex-Portsmouth chief now plans to bring in an experienced shotstopper in January to compete with erratic Gomes, bought from PSV Eindhoven in June for £7.8m. Redknapp's scouts have contacted agents for Hahnemann about a bargain switch.

The American, 36, is out of contract in the summer and would relish a move from the Championship to Premier League Spurs.

Hahnemann has become a hero at Reading since joining from Fulham in August 2002. But the keeper is disappointed by Reading's refusal to give him a long-term deal due to his age.

I remember thinking in the summer that I thought someone might come in for Marcus, thought West Brom might have done at the time, this could be ideal for Spurs in all honesty. Hahnemann is a steady eddie keeper, he'll give you a consistant solid performance and if Spurs haven't got a lot of cash they could do far worse than bringing someone like Hahnemann in for the short term.

He's had a few appaerances since his wonder show at Old Trafford in the FA Cup, and performed poorly in all.

One minute the balls in front of him, the next, it's behindu.

Not at all. He does look suspect. Only when he plays do I realise just how fortunate we are to have Marcus, to be honest.

Maybe harsh in your eyes, but he's had a number of poor performances in goal and the replay against United he was ripped to shreds too. But that was against United.
His positioning is terrible, he's poor low to his right, even watching him in warm ups.

I'm more hopeful about Anderson and Hamer than I am of Federici.

Andersen has had many more poor write ups than Federici, Hamer does seem a bright prospect.

How many games have you seen each of them play though, and at what level ? Andersen hasn;t impressed me when I've seen him but he's also not had much to do to be fair to him !

Federici on loan at Southend: 2 clean sheets, 15 goals conceded in 10 games. Doesn't sound like he's having a great time. Mind you, Southend's form over those ten games is: 4 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats, which sounds like they're doing really well.

As in Hamer, the keeper who carelessly got sent off for Brentford in the F.A. Cup leading to an embarrassing exit to non-league opposition? That is by far a worse mistake than anything Feds has ever done! If were going to be silly and make rash judgements about keepers you'd have to say Federici > Hamer.

Going back to reality I think Federici is a terrific prospect. Minus the 6 minutes against Man Utd, I think he's been pretty solid. Admittingly there has been some confusion with him and the defence, but thats something that takes games to gain a proper understanding. Federici in my eyes will be the man to replace Hahnemann, Hamer is a good prospect too but I think it'll be a while before he's really competing for the keepers jersey. Can't really comment on Andersen as I haven't seen that much of him!

Federici is as good as Cudicini, absolutely laughable.

Federici strikes me as one of them keepers like Robinson who will just let in a lot of goals. He might make the odd brilliant acrobatic save now and then but too many go passed him. Southend are a decent side at that level and as pointed out, 15 goals against in that time isn't impressive. I would say also that in quite a few games Federici has played for Reading (that i've seen aynway) I've often thought 'could have done better with that'. A bit like Stack was criticised for, they aren't always glaring blunders but goals you think for example Hahnemann would have saved. He may get there in time but I'm not as hopeful for Federici as some of you.

also saw an earlier poster critcise Hamer, well they have either the best or one of the best defenses in League 2 in which Hamer has been outstanding. I saw the sending off, he slid out and dived on the ball, the conditions were awful and his momentum took hi outside the box, he then has two choices, 1 hold it and give away a free kick and possibly although would be harsh sent off, or 2, release it and try and reclaim it. He went for number 2, the striker stole in before him and he brought him down. It wasn't as though it was shoddy handling or a genuine error from Hamer, it was solely down to the conditions of the pitch.

I've seen Andersen play 3 professional games, which is more than anyone else here and more than Coppell probably, my thoughts are well documented about him. i don't believe he will be anything above BSP maybe League 2 level and that's in time. Currently he isn't even good enough for that.

Of the 3, Hamer strikes me as the most impressive, he's still very young and is in his 3rd succesful long term loan spell, i really hope they persevere with him and give him some chances next season. If Hahnemann goes then Coppell will play Federici, rightly so in that it's almost getting to make or break time for him, but from what iv'e seen it won't be too long before Hamer displaces him as well.
