Reading player of the season Jordan Obita made a big impact on his England Under-21 debut last night. Obita completed the full 90 minutes and scored the opener for England as they ran out 3-0 winners over Qatar in the Toulon Tournament.
After a dull start to the match, Obita made it a night to remember with a superb goal on 31 minutes that injected life into the game. Obita's strike that flew into the bottom corner of the net was described as "fantastic" and England U21 manager Gareth Southgate was impressed with Obita's performance: "...when he held his width, he caused them real problems. He scored a fantastic goal and it came at the right time for us."
Meanwhile, papers continue to report on interest from Premier League clubs in snapping up Obita. Liverpool and Arsenal are both rumoured to be considering bids for the player. After this latest performance his value continues to rise. The questions are now how long the Royals can hang on to the player and how much money they will get for him. It will be a real achievement to hold on to such talent.
