South Bank was full of Villa and there were some scary-looking skinheads in the Town End as well.Victor Meldrew wrote:October 31st 1970.tlcs wrote:I cant remember the year but we got beat by Aston Villa 5-3 , could have been 1969
One of the most entertaining games I have ever seen despite the rain.
You were the same as me,8 goals in our first game so no wonder we came back for more.
I wasn't allowed to go to that game IIRC had measles or something .fruits wrote:10th January 1957 Reading 1 Wrexham 2 FA Cup replay. The winner was due to meet the Busby Babes, typical Reading to lose out. Maurice Evans was playing in one of his first games.
That Man U side could have been the greatest British team ever, but most of the players were killed in Munich air disaster a year or so later Twenty of the 44 people on board the aircraft died in the crash. The injured, some of whom had been knocked unconscious, were taken to the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich where three more died, resulting in a total of 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.
Manchester United players who were killed
* Geoff Bent
* Roger Byrne
* Eddie Colman
* Duncan Edwards (survived the crash, but died in hospital 15 days later)
* Mark Jones
* David Pegg
* Tommy Taylor
* Liam "Billy" Whelan
Many reckon Duncan Edwards could have been the greatest English player that ever had he lived.
Have so many memories of Reading FC have seen so many characters over the years, Ray "Bomber "Reeves who hit a ball harder than anyone I have seen. Dick Spiers,(R.I.P) was n´t a dirty player just appeared to be. Johnny Walker who scored with a rocket from 40 yards on his debut. Robin Friday ......
Ups and downs, Maxwell, defeat to Bolton in the play off final, coming from 3-0 behind at home to Plymouth and winning 4-3. The highs and lows are endless. I could go on for days rather than hours.
Reading FC is a great club we may not have won too much, but usually the club has been run ethically. My dream was always to see Reading FC in the top division, now my dream is to see them make the European Cup.
Might appear controversial but I'd like to see the third and fourth tiers regionilised again.Victor Meldrew wrote:Div3 South

Can't beat that BUT ... 1st game was Reading 7 Barnsley 0 29th December 1979. And for saddo stattos out there, its been down hill all the way since then ... we haven't had a better score line since in a competitive matchMid Sussex Royal wrote:Preston Home, April 1971 - behind the Tilehurst End goal at Elm Park. We got relagated that season to div 4 for the first time but actually won that game 1-0 against a side which got promoted that season.
Must be loads of fans on here who can beat that though.
you're being harsh, it was 12 yards. Mind you it was an empty goal and my dog could have scoredstickywhisky wrote:I also remember being behind the goal vs Forest when Steve Stone missed from 2 yards out - anyone else there that night?
That was 69 and I remember it. A brilliant performance and Jack Mansell's fantastic passing team were beginning to really get it together.MICKLEOVER ROYAL wrote:Boxing Day 68 or 69 Reading 3 Shrewsbury 1
