The stats approach is better than the human element for certain things...initial recruitment, etcWinston Biscuit wrote:what I find odd is that you want someone on co coms or punditry who is skilled and knowledgeable, and can give insight to the viewer based on their experience. but the tv companies seem to have allowed themselves to feel pressured by the world of online football content which has become more and more stats based, and so now you get people with a great knowledge of the game, being handed meaningless stats to talk about, because with no context or explanation, the stats literally have no meaning
The people brought onto TV games should be counter to that world, and should be there to explain the human element of what is happening and why. Not just being told to discuss the 'impactful passes in middle 3rd' stat which someone behind the scenes has put up on the screen
I think we are basically in agreement. Stats can tell you something deeper than you can see, but you need to use it alongside a bunch of other info to understand what it means. Some pundit throwing some random stat up on screen and pointing at it, as if it has any value at all is just straight up nonsenseBRO_BOT wrote:The stats approach is better than the human element for certain things...initial recruitment, etcWinston Biscuit wrote:what I find odd is that you want someone on co coms or punditry who is skilled and knowledgeable, and can give insight to the viewer based on their experience. but the tv companies seem to have allowed themselves to feel pressured by the world of online football content which has become more and more stats based, and so now you get people with a great knowledge of the game, being handed meaningless stats to talk about, because with no context or explanation, the stats literally have no meaning

The stat you mentioned above is probably one used to improve a model. It's a way of refining the stat to reflect what is happening on the pitch. Using it individually is a waste of time and the sort of thing journalists do (i.e. poor analysis)
Yeah. kind of ruins the stat but is basically Egan, Lundstrum and McBurnie.John Madejski's Wallet wrote:MentalSanguine wrote:Cracking stat this one, from Hull City's victory over Sheffield United. ......although is that made up of a fair few players or just one or two long time Blades?

For the first time in over two years, Erling Haaland has been flagged offside in a Premier League away match
Follow up Haaland and West Ham stat:Whore Jackie wrote:West Ham had the ninth-highest average home attendance in the world last season.
Unsurprising, I half expect to find out next that, despite it being Haaland, he’s actually only scored about 3 or so goals thereWhore Jackie wrote:Follow up Haaland and West Ham stat:Whore Jackie wrote:West Ham had the ninth-highest average home attendance in the world last season.
Since his arrival in the Premier League, only four West Ham players have scored more goals at the London Stadium than Erling Haaland.

I hate XG with a passion, and judge people strongly on whether they buy into it (fall for it) or not.SouthDownsRoyal wrote:It all started with XG everyone seemed so excited by (many still are( by XGWinston Biscuit wrote:what I find odd is that you want someone on co coms or punditry who is skilled and knowledgeable, and can give insight to the viewer based on their experience. but the tv companies seem to have allowed themselves to feel pressured by the world of online football content which has become more and more stats based, and so now you get people with a great knowledge of the game, being handed meaningless stats to talk about, because with no context or explanation, the stats literally have no meaning
