Not just attacking set plays, but defensive set plays as well. At least it looks like we are trying to address our problem areas from last season, the defence, goalkeeping and set piece situation, rather than just filling the squad with numbers because we lack them. There does seem to some logical thought process going into this at least.Stranded wrote:100 Championship apps and 11 goals.
Only 18 apps, 14 starts, last season though with 3 goals.
Think he is worth a punt and looks like he would be a source of goals from set plays.
Probably best if he isn’t a source of goals at defensive set plays.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:Not just attacking set plays, but defensive set plays as well. Be nice to have some options at set pieces though, Swift and Olise are both gone and they were really the only specialists the club have had in the last couple of years. At the moment I’m not sure who the club have that can give a decent threat from free kicks etc.Snowflake Royal wrote:Probably best if he isn’t a source of goals at defensive set plays.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:Not just attacking set plays, but defensive set plays as well. It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. Holmes and McIntyre I think are capable of playing either side of another CB, with Yiadom at RWB and a more offensive-minded LWB with potentially Ejaria on that side as well. Based on current rumours/signings, we could have something like:Simon's Church wrote:Probably a coincidence but both Bennett and Sarr have mostly played in a back 3 for the last few years, cant remember any other CBs we've been strongly linked with

Lumley
Holmes Sarr/New CB McIntyre
Yiadom Tetek Shackleton New LWB
Meite Joao Ejaria
With the Bouzanis, Dann, Moore (if he's ever involved for the club again), Ince, Azeez, Long, Camara etc involved on the bench.
Definitely something I think can be explored potentially.
He probably will be in P.Ince's side, although that's just my team based on a back 3 and rumours/arrivals as it stands.Pepe the Horseman wrote:I've got a strange feeling that Ince will be a starter.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. Which doesn't fill me with confidence.Hound wrote:Yeah it’d be good for him to have some pace and not arguing with you Ian at all, but feel the management are looking for a big aggressive lump to pair with Holmes I imagine
Not sure pace is the first thing they are looking for based on the rumours so far
Seems unlikely if we've decided against Cadden at LB because he's too attacking.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. It might be Ince and Ejaria who can come inside to create a "box" midfield which might help with compactness. They can be good as they can create/stop overloads i.e. act as a wide player if the opposition try to play with width and overload our wide areas or play narrow and create a 4 man (box) midfield against a teams' traditional 3 man midfield. It can be quite flexible.Snowflake Royal wrote:Seems unlikely if we've decided against Cadden at LB because he's too attacking.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. Wing backs AND wide forwards seems like a bad idea.
Works for Tuchel and Conte!Snowflake Royal wrote:Seems unlikely if we've decided against Cadden at LB because he's too attacking.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:It has been mentioned a few times and I believe we would benefit from a back 3, particularly with so few midfield options as well so it could be the way to go. I think they work in slightly less competitive leagues, with comparatively better teamsSCIAG wrote:Works for Tuchel and Conte!Snowflake Royal wrote:Seems unlikely if we've decided against Cadden at LB because he's too attacking.YorkshireRoyal99 wrote:

To be fair, Blackburn and QPR have been pretty successful in recent times playing in a similar-ish way.Snowflake Royal wrote:I think they work in slightly less competitive leagues, with comparatively better teamsSCIAG wrote:Works for Tuchel and Conte!Snowflake Royal wrote: Seems unlikely if we've decided against Cadden at LB because he's too attacking.
