recency bias counts for a lot when looking at how good a player has been for your club. Not a dig at Utd as everyone does it, but Casemiro is the one that stands out to me the most right now. for much of his time at Man Utd he has apparently been sh*t, lazy, past his best, fat, and a waste of money, but this season he has been good so him leaving in the summer is being treated like a club legend is moving on and everyone is sad about it. Football fandom is weird.

Unlike Virgil, Maguire never had any pace to lose.

I do think Maguire is unfairly maligned. Yes, United overpaid when they bought him and he did himself no favours early on but he is a solid and experienced Premier League defender and he's playing well this season.

Utd will save football next year m9
Yeah sure-great ambition shown by extending Maguire's contract. :D
Currently, I'd rather have Maguire in my team than the massively overrated Virgil.

ok digs out of the way...

I'd say it's just a practical choice. In an ideal world, you might move him on. However, next Monday we'll have two teenagers playing at CB against Leeds because De Ligt has fooked his back and probably won't be playing again this season, and Martinez has also had a number of injuries.

He's actually played pretty well for a while now. I looked up his numbers, and he tends to be in the top 10% for most of the things you'd want a defender to be doing. Totally overpaid for him, but that's not his fault. We probably got reasonable value for him in the end, £10M a season
You did see him get sent off at Bournemouth didn't you?
In that game he looked like a very old man playing a young man's game so hopefully Man Utd play him in every game next season when of course he will be even older and slower (if that is possible).

We weren't discussing Virgil.
Incidentally I heard in commentary the other night that he has played more minutes this season than any other player in the top 5 leagues in Europe.
The guy probably needs a rest.

They've blown it, City looks like they have found the gears. Only thing that might save them is that EverytIme City have got close to them they have turned up. A draw might save them next week but I wouldn't put money on it. I'm getting a repeat of the cup final vibes.

So, seeing as this is the Arsenal thread, who will be their manager next season?

Would be quite an amusing season if Arsenal fcuk up a title that was theirs to lose and Spurs get relegated.

No doubt there's some Arsenal fans who would take Spurs getting relegated over winning the PL this season.
