I don't think a target striker has to be over 6 foot, just capable of looking after the ball for us when we clear it under pressure.

I floated this on an earlier thread, but former Manchester United trainee Kenny Cooper? He's listed at 6'3" 220 and scored 11 goals for FC Dallas in MLS last year. He's still young (21?) and his father is English so work permit would not be a problem.

We could have had a look at Sutton or Hartson in the close season. Good, aware players that would have fitted the bill.

I didn't see Eastwood as a target man at all.

Another possibility for 6 months would be to look at Brian McBride. But I'm not sure how much he's playing for Fulham. Hard as nails, can hold the ball up and a pretty decent goalscoring record.

OK, might take some persuading that one.

Coppell was at Southend on Saturday...Probably watching Nugent instead of Eastwood...

Nugent would be the preferred option, he's an England U21 International, will probably cost Â£3 - Â£4m but if we throw in a fringe player or 2 (what about sending Long up there on loan as part of the deal!)

Shouldn't probably say this on here, but Southend have sort of become my second team... Been to see them a half dozen times over the last few yearsand I can categorically state that Freddy Eastwood has the potential to make it in the Premiership. In League 1, to say he was a different class is an understatement. Haven't seen much of them since they were promoted though...

I have also heard that Coppell was at the match on Saturday. I figured he was looking at Eastwood, Sodje and Nugent.. Most Southend fans seem to think Eastwood will be joining either Reading or Villa in the new year. I'm not sure how well a gypsy will settle in the royal county though... But he is Coppell's type of player....

No, you're not alone on that one. I've been thinking about McBride for a while now. Perfect short-term replacement for Kitson. His contract is up at the end of the season, though I'd imagine Coleman would be desperate to keep him. Very underrated IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Carlton Cole join on loan though.

The guy once got injured tripping over a training cone.

McBride's age would be a good factor - if he has decided to leave Fulham, then a short term deal could be clever. And I really rate him. If he'd been in England as a 23, 24 year old, he would have scored loads.

Don't forget Bobby Zamora. Once Dean Ashton is back Zamora will be excess to requirements. Coppell may be the manager to get the best out of him.

John Hartson would do a very good job in the second half of the season - very much a cover option but a good one none the less.

However I have a feeling that Mr Eastwood will be making his way here soon. Reading is commutable, Villa probably isnt..... It all depends on whether West ham are interested!

As Freddie is a gypsy i'd imagine anywhere is commutable for him.
