Noted before that I struggle with Jamie Redknapp's age. He's 52 and joined Liverpool just after Italia 90. He feels like part of the next generation to be, but really he straddled Barnes, Hansen et al and the 'Spice Boys'.South Coast Royal wrote: ↑04 Jun 2026 11:06A very good point and you can add Kompany at Bayern Munich and Chivu at Inter to the very much under 50s.Sanguine wrote: ↑03 Jun 2026 15:07 Football management - a young man's game?

None of the managers of the traditional 'big six' will be past their mid-forties next season. Add in Eddie Howe (48), Keith Andrews (45) and Fabian Hurzeler (33!). Lampard is 47, McKenna 40, Jakirovic 49. As it stands only four clubs (Sunderland, Villa, Everton, Forest) set to be managed next season by someone older than 50.
There are exceptions of course with 3 of the biggest clubs in Europe in Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG (I think we can now call PSG "big"?) being all managed by men well over 50-I was surprised that Luis Enrique is as old as 56 even if lately he does look more of that age but it doesn't feel to me that long ago that he was running around energetically for both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Mind you, that is me because I struggle with the fact that Dalglish and Keegan are both 75 and John Barnes is 62 let alone young James Milner is 40.
