I'm not so sure I'd want to get rid of Loum personally speaking, although he's probably going to cost quite a significant amount as well. Fornah I wouldn't be against keeping either if we could tempt him away from Forest, young player, low wages and only 12 months left to run on his deal, Forest might be willing to let him go for a small fee and he might be someone that we'd be capable of developing.

NGW I'd offer for sure, but probably only another 12 month deal really, Mbengue potentially a couple of years on his contract whilst we look to move both Puscas and Ejaria on permanently.

Personally I'd find it too hard to do that exercise because it depends on unknowns like wages and whether we can identify replacements.

Dann, Long, and Moore are pretty obvious "gos", unless they're willing to agree below-average wages.

Joao is better than anyone else we are likely to get in, but would probably receive an offer we can't keep up with. Probably similar from Meite.

Lumley is not up to this level and should be the first one out the door. Loum, Hendrick, and Fornah are good enough, but WCBAP - and while they're quite different players, not sure it makes sense to have both Hendrick and Hutchinson as geriatric midfielders. Rahman might be the best we can do in his position, but he's rarely lived up to his reputation and wouldn't warrant anything close to his Chelsea wages. Hoilett has looked very useful this season and we can certainly get another year out of him.

Tetek's injuries are a concern, but he's still very young, cheap, and has looked good in those occasional appearances.

I could see Long staying another year... seems in fairly good shape, especially for his age. Still causes problems and could do a job from the bench or as a squad player... if he's willing to take a related wage, could even see a 1 year +1 option if fit.

Also think Hoilett could be worth a squad place as the likes of Azeez and Abrefa transition into the side, again, on the right wage detail.

Lumley is ok, not made loads of howlers, been a bit average, though better recently. We could do worse. Wouldn't try desperately hard to keep and would prefer better.

Dann, Moore, Ejaria and Rahman are all definite goes. If possible in Ejaria's case

I'd like to see at least some continuity in midfield, though I think that's a little unlikely. Fornah probably my pick, Hendrick and Loum ok, but I suspect it'll be a full reset.

We might keep one of Meite or Joao, but probably both going. Shame, but neither has really kicked on this season.

I think Tetek should find somewhere less cursed.

NGW should be playing and staying, but I expect him to go seeing as he's been left out for the quite poor Rahman.

Hutch hasn't been fit enough to stay on really. I don't think Sarr leaving would be a big loss on current showing.

I think the last thing we need to do is make wholesale changes to the squad where possible. Obviously with the shackles off we should look to strengthen but hopefully lessons have been learned and we do it in a more sustainable way.

Much as I like him, think Meite will go. Be a good signing for someone on a free who can continue to pay him a better wage than we will. Joao will go. As will Moore, Dann, probably all the loanees (don’t think Fornah has done enough tbh, done ok but a bit forgettable)

Maybe if any one loanee will stay it may be Hendrick - another year loan from Newcastle

Lumley will stay and sign of a free I expect. We’ll probably either sell or loan ejaria out, release Tetek.

May keep Hoilett and Long for one more year

So think it will be quite a big reset again I expect but we’ll be in a far stronger position with plenty of space in the wage bill to bring in some of ince and Bowen’s targets

Hoilett and Long I'd possibly give another 12 months to providing they are on the wages they are on now, they are experienced members that could be useful to younger squad members.

Lumley I'd like to stay, Fornah might be decent as a cheap-ish option from Forest and could develop well with us, Loum has done well since coming back from the WC although he will be pretty expensive I'm sure but he would do well for continuity and quality in the midfield.

Moore and Dann I can see being released without much fuss, not sure if Hendrick will come back after his loan spell, Rahman we shouldn't look to bring back either, NGW would get another 12-month deal unless he can break into the team consistently whereas Puscas and Ejaria we can hope to move on permanently in the summer, freeing up some cash and wages for another rebuild.

If Ejaria and Puscas are moved on, along with Moore, Joao and Meite leaving, that really is all the last of the big earners gone from the old days (though suspect T Ince is on a decent contract now)

Could be 4-5 million per year from that lot. Does give us lots of scope without actually weakening our current side a great deal - 3 of them are not playing at all, the other 2 on the bench

From a financial perspective, it would be ideal to move them all on, or keep one or two on reduced wages now. On the flip side, I can imagine that one or two players may want improved deals than what they are currently on when restrictions are lifted. Obviously we don't know exactly what that wage is, but I don't think any of them are earning £10k a week, whereas the likes of T.Ince might want a wage like that.

I'd like to see us integrate a few promising academy players if they are ready though. The closest ones we have do seem to be Abrefa and Azeez from who we currently have, Dorsett might be ready to come into the squad, Abbey and Kelvin E might need another season out on loan somewhere before becoming full members of the squad, but if they don't and they are ready, then we can use them. I just wouldn't want our squad flooding with academy players where some might not be ready yet, just because they might be a year or two down the line.

Always thought that talk was nonsense but its clear in his case. If he has another year to run on his contract and is happy here then i can see that been the same next year basically giving us a free player.

Don't agree that's at all the case.

Holmes and Ince streets ahead of him.

In fact I'd say Lumley is consistently one of our middling performers. And when you look at most the saves he's made, they're routine, and few of the goals he's let in are worldies.

And just for Hound, though I set no stall by it, he's 15th on our player average ratings on whoscored.com @6.46... pretty much the exemplar rating for average performer.
