At the time I think we were desperate for money so, even if there were a sell-on option for a lower transfer fee,, we probably went for the highest amount that we could.

Great to see him do so well and realise the potential that he obviously had to be taken on by both Chelsea and City before us.
Reading can claim some credit for his development though which is more than can be said for the very disappointing Ejaria who was also talented enough as a youngster to be sought after by the bigger clubs.

There are many tales of unfulfilled talent, Olise is not one of those but regrettably Ejaria is.

Much more the latter than the former.

When he signed the deal, £8m was a very big release clause. By the time it was apparent he was likely to be worth more, there was no reason for him to agree to a new deal to either stay or increase the release clause. He was clearly attractive to PL teams by that point and increasing the release clause would only make it harder for him to move as less of a bargain. He clearly saw us as a stepping stone to prove himself and then get into the PL asap. He and his agent played a blinder. We got a great little player for a couple of seasons and £8m we desperately needed.

Everyone was a winner. We did about as well as we could out of it.

As a young Premier League regular who creates chances he is probably automatically considered to be worth £50 million especially when the likes of Sancho, Anthony, Mudryk etc. have cost nearly twice as much.

I don't really agree necessarily with the argument of, he'd never sign a new deal because he'd get a move anyway. I just don't think it works like that. If we were better run we could have offered him something mid-season and we could have easily made him one of our highest earners.

Had they both been offered deals on breaking into the first team I think they’d have signed, without the wage having broken the bank. From memory though we could only offer short term deals. Surely a good deal would have allowed them a greater percentage of any transfer fee?

Regardless. They both, Loader and Moore being sold would have reduced the debt but likely just papered over the cracks. Since JM left, until Bowen arrived, our financial management and transfers have been largely poor.

A kid or one of our best players? What has his age got to do with his ability? The point was, if we were better run, we could have offered them better deals and made him one of our top earners. That would mean we wouldn't have Moore on £30k a week, as he'd have been sold, or Swift on £25k, he'd have been sold. We could have had Olise on £20k a week if we wanted to and then sold on, assuming he would accept.

I think you've missed the point as we wouldn't have been offering them new deals at that time, but rather earlier. Of course we were never going to compete with Bayern or Palace, but we wouldn't have to be competing with anyone if we had flexibility to offer them longer and improved deals.

You mentioned being mismanaged for a decade... we were still able to keep our best players potentially by offering them deals a decade ago. You could say if we weren't under transfer embargo's like we have been over the last 3/4 years, then maybe we'd have been able to do something more with them.

Perhaps if we had a proper scouting network instead of relying on the fraud Kia Joorabchian then maybe we'd have identified sooner that he'd be a star and we'd have made better decisions such as selling Moore and offering Olise and Richards better deals. I'm sure both would have accepted a decent deal with a £25m and £15m release clause respectively.

We could have got £40m for the both of them combined and we wouldn't be in this mess. Instead our clueless dictator of an owner screwed us there.

He has to learn quickly or sell up as he's ruining this club. The more I think about the Olise and Richards shambles the more angry I get.

We also lost Osho for nothing who's done decent things for Luton. The club have to get better here, we won't always get it right but it's gross mismanagement by the club, we knew Olise would be a top player.

Richards was a funny one, he came good out of nowhere in games but a good scout could have seen his potential.

Just to put in perspective how rubbish our academy is. Apparently 75 players from the academy have played in the first team. How many have been any good? Brentford don’t have an academy. A small example of players sold. Hogan £11.5 million Maupey £20 million Watkins £ 33 million. Toney probably £50-60 million, in today’s market. Not to mention several other defenders and midfielders. The academy is not working 20 years with a couple of exceptions who have all gone on to better things with other clubs.
