Speculation - ish. Someone I know who has had links to the club in the past has said to me we are looking at these 2. Not sure how true this is or whether it is firm interest.
Robert’s is a journeyman with a not so great record including over 20 appearances for Northampton last year for 1 goal. Birmingham are morethan happy for him to move on. Good pedigree just never shown any more than that.
Marriott is currently recovering from appendicitis, does have a good record in League 1 and could potentially be the player up front we all want and need. Wrexham are willing to sell with 1 year left on contract and could be let go for as little as 500k.

I actually have had a look round once he said it and to be honest there is not many out there that have scored 10+ consistently in league 1 or above that might be available. Most have moved up the leagues or are a lot older or will be out of our affordability. It would not surprise me if this doesn’t turn out to be true due to the options out there. Tyler Robert’s I am a bit meh on great potential but may never make it. No fee was mentioned by him but I guess it depends on the figure.

Completely agree, it’s either take a punt on someone like Marriott who might come good again or explore the foreign markets now. I think we have missed the boat on anyone who would have slotted straight in and hit the ground running.

Completely agree, it’s either take a punt on someone like Marriott who might come good again or explore the foreign markets now. I think we have missed the boat on anyone who would have slotted straight in and hit the ground running.

Always rated Marriott myself, think he’d do decently and is about as good as we could hope for given the current situation.

It's claimed his wages are circa 6k per week, which would probably fit our model. It's been a while since he scored regularly though - I'm not sure Wrexham would get 500k. Could do a lot worse, but I'm afraid I'm not particularly excited.

What’s happened to us signing younger League One standard players with potential to develop?

At the very least a Sam Smith-style signing where he still have three or so years at their peak left in them and some potential resale value.

Tbh his scoring record is very patchy and apparently he’s only 5ft 8 so not really sure he’s the answer. Cant see him winning maybe of Wing or Burns 60 yard punts in his vague direction

The key to building a squad is not signing just players who are young and may attract a decent sell on value - you need to add to that with the odd player who will do a job now and will have little to no sell on value - I'm not saying Marriott is the right signing (if it happens) but spending money on an experienced player in a position of need makes sense.

We may "lose" 500k on him but if he helps a player elsewhere shine i.e. then that may raise their market value by double or triple what we paid for them, it makes sense.
