Prediction poll: Final finishing position

by WestYorksRoyal » 10 Aug 2026 11:30

It's that time again. How are we feeling before the season kicks off?

Obviously a massive caveat that the window is still open for 3 weeks, which will influence opinions.

I'm going top half; perhaps scrape into the play-offs but lose to a good team if we get there.

Our starting XI is good enough, but we've left ourselves a lot of late transfer window work to do to get a squad capable of lasting the distance. Plus I'm still not completely sold on Leam, even if the mood seems more positive now.

I'm feeling weirdly confident about play-offs.

I think it was unreasonable to have expected much from last season, with the caveat that it would be this season that we’d be mounting a serious challenge. I have afforded the owners and manager a fair amount of grace and anything short of the playoffs would be a disappointment; the football has to improve absent of the excuses of last year, and if the squad or manager aren’t up to the task something will have to change.

I hope the fans will not let past biases shape their reactions and we keep a level head - we aren’t going to win or play well every game, and we have to remember we aren’t the club we used to be. But I think we should expect more than mere glimpses of promise and Leam has to prove he is capable of delivering better football if he’s going to be the man to lead us back up the league.

With our lack of squad depth, that is for sure weird.

I have gone mid table, but if the change is made early enough then should be play-offs.

Based on the lack of transfer activity it will be a great surprise if we finish more than mid table.

Mid table based on current squad depth.

This is our year. If we can focus, keep discipline, and not have quite as many mysterious injuries, Reading are gonna rule!

I've gone mid-table due to our depth, like others. I don't think we're any stronger than last season at this stage.

Add in a couple of extra bodies, especially an alternative to Jack Marriott and I could conceivably see us ending up in the play-off picture.

Obviously I should reserve judgement until the end of the transfer window but at present, we're too good to go down but not good enough to seriously challenge. I think it's going to be a frustrating season.

I think if we persist with our Junior Executive Intern heading up the recruitment. We will have a very similar finish to last season.

Not about us, but Not The Top 20 have predicted Peterborough and Barnsley relegated  . They have us 12th for the record, which aligns with predictions here.

I believe we will finish top half, and probably top 10. I don't think we have the squad depth for a play off push however (though that could change before the end of the window and in January of course)

Top half. A bit better than last year.

Evolution not revolution. Or whatever.
